 June 2007 | Eurowings à la Lufthansa

Cabins in the Eurowings fleet given Lufthansa make-over.

It takes six days per aircraft to restyle the cabins of a Eurowings plane to bring it into line with a Lufthansa jet. After that Eurowings technicians change the seat covers, the carpeting as well as the coating of the cabin walls. “Beforehand everything was in the Eurowings colours of red, white and blue, whereas now we have Lufthansa colours and logos in the cabins, predominantly grey and blue tones”, according to Oliver Weiss, Head of Engineering Eurowings Luftverkehrs AG, describing the new design for Eurowings aircraft.

The gradual conversion of Eurowings cabin furnishings to the Lufthansa design is another milestone on the way to achieving unity of product standardisation: customers that buy Lufthansa tickets expect the plane to have a “Lufthansa feel”. A couple of months ago we also introduced the empty middle seat in business class to the Eurowings fleet. Onboard the CRJ with 2/2 seating every other seat is left free in business class giving frequent flyers even more comfort.

Eurowings has undertaken another project, the first of its kind anywhere in the world, to equip its CRJ 200 fleet with self-lighting (fluorescent) emergency exit markers on the floor. “This has only been possible through collaboration with Lufthansa technology”, Oliver Weiss commented. Advantages to this new system are first and foremost its reliability, which will prevent delays and cancellations, but also on a more practical level reduce maintenance requirements. Moreover the new emergency exit floor markers are reasonably priced and can be adapted to the colour of the carpeting, “Even if different coloured plastics are used, the stripes always give off a yellowish-green light in the dark and thus clearly indicate the emergency exits” Oliver Weiss went on to say.
