Explore new horizons as a Eurowings pilot (m/f)

A pilot (m/f) does not just have to fly from A to B, he/she also has to act as cockpit manager, always aware of the high responsibility towards man and machinery. Our aircraft have modern systems for which you need a high propensity for integration, very good knowledge of complex situations and excellent team-working skills.

Training
Basic requirement for training as a Eurowings first officer (m/f) is a valid JAR FCL ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot License). It can be gained at a flying school authorized by the Federal Aviation Office. The cost of this training is currently approx. € 70,000.00.

Eurowings' training program for obtaining type rating includes the following courses:

Approx. 6-week ground course with emphasis on aircraft systems, procedures, performance, weight & balance, cockpit procedure training, rescue & safety, crew resource management, dangerous goods, quality management, company regulations, documentation, etc.

After the ground course has successfully been completed, training in a full flight simulator starts. During our 44 to 56 hour program (which depends on the type of aircraft you are trained in) over a two to three week period, our type rating instructors (TRI) will teach you all procedures. After a successful check flight, you will complete an aircraft training flight. Only when you have successfully completed this section, the certificate type rating as second pilot (first officer, m/f) will be entered on the ATPL separate sheet. This is followed by your first commercial scheduled flight under a supervisory captain (m/f) and a senior co-pilot (m/f). If you have shown the necessary capability during the last training section comprising 140 flying hours, you will then have one final line check. You will then be qualified to fly, with a captain (m/f), for the airline.

After your training, you will participate regularly in further courses, e.g., crew resource management, flight safety, evacuation exercises, firefighting, dangerous goods, etc.

Every 6 months you will undertake a simulated check flight with an expert pilot and once a year a line check during a normal scheduled flight.

Further training
In the course of a few years you will gradually acquire the flying experience and maturity for upgrading by continuously expanding your knowledge of flight machinery and systems, by becoming familiar with the routes, by actually experiencing meteorological phenomena, and by learning important details about crew resource management.

If you continue to enjoy working for Eurowings and your personal and flying abilities meet our requirement profile, you can apply internally for the position of flight captain (m/f). If your qualifications meet the requirements, you will go through a further theoretical and practical training phase as future flight captain (m/f). The theoretical training is followed by a new period under a supervisory captain (m/f) who is always with you and teaches you the new skills and challenges. Only when you have logged at least 100 flying hours will a positive line check be made and allow you to become a pilot (m/f) in command. This training is also paid for by Eurowings.

Even in your career as a captain (m/f) you will continue to have further training in all areas. In addition, if you have a talent for teaching and enjoy communicating your aviation knowledge, you can apply to become a supervisory captain (m/f) and take part in courses to attain the qualification to train others.
