Training
Basic requirement for training as a Eurowings first officer (m/f) is a valid JAR FCL ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot License). It can be gained at a flying school authorized by the Federal Aviation Office. The cost of this training is currently approx. € 70,000.00.
Eurowings' training program for obtaining type rating includes the following courses:
Approx. 6-week ground course with emphasis on aircraft systems, procedures, performance, weight & balance, cockpit procedure training, rescue & safety, crew resource management, dangerous goods, quality management, company regulations, documentation, etc.
After the ground course has successfully been completed, training in a full flight simulator starts. During our 44 to 56 hour program (which depends on the type of aircraft you are trained in) over a two to three week period, our type rating instructors (TRI) will teach you all procedures. After a successful check flight, you will complete an aircraft training flight. Only when you have successfully completed this section, the certificate type rating as second pilot (first officer, m/f) will be entered on the ATPL separate sheet. This is followed by your first commercial scheduled flight under a supervisory captain (m/f) and a senior co-pilot (m/f). If you have shown the necessary capability during the last training section comprising 140 flying hours, you will then have one final line check. You will then be qualified to fly, with a captain (m/f), for the airline.
After your training, you will participate regularly in further courses, e.g., crew resource management, flight safety, evacuation exercises, firefighting, dangerous goods, etc.
Every 6 months you will undertake a simulated check flight with an expert pilot and once a year a line check during a normal scheduled flight. |
