How does Bid for BEST work, and what requirements apply to placing bids?

Bid for BEST offers you the opportunity to submit a bid for an upgrade to the BEST fare at any time between 3 days and 24 hours before departure. After the deadline passes, you can no longer bid. To submit a bid, all you need is the prior purchase of a ticket in the SMART fare for a direct flight on a Eurowings route that also offers BEST seats. We do not charge any booking or registration fees for upgrade bids.

If you receive an upgrade you can fly in the BEST fare on this route. This includes:

  • A comfortable Premium seat with more legroom
  • Two items of luggage each weighing up to 23 kg
  • Two items of hand luggage
  • Significantly improved in-flight service with à la carte catering
  • Lounge access (as available)
  • Use of the fast lane
  • A reserved hand luggage compartment
  • Priority boarding.
     

How Bid for BEST works:

  1. Log in to eurowings.com in the "Mein Flug" / "My Eurowings" area with your login data or your name and booking reference, and select the booking for which you would like to submit a bid for an upgrade. This service is only available online; it is not possible to submit a bid by telephone.
  2. If it is possible to submit a bid for the selected booking, you will see a link to "Bid for BEST" below the flight information. Here you can submit your bid for upgrade to the BEST fare. An upgrade bid can only be submitted SEPARATELY for each leg (for example, a flight from Cologne to Berlin = first leg, return from Berlin to Cologne = second leg) and for all passengers in a booking. If a booking includes several passengers, your upgrade bid applies to each person for all passengers in the booking (for example, in the case of 3 passengers in one booking and a bid of 50 euros for the BEST upgrade for the outgoing leg: 3 x €50 = €150). If your bid for an outgoing flight is accepted, there is no guarantee that your bid for the return flight will also be accepted.
  3. After entering your credit card information and confirming the terms of participation, you can submit your bid. The credit card information is only used to confirm your bid – your credit card is only charged once your bid is accepted and an upgrade has been made to the BEST fare.
  4. You will receive a confirmation of receipt of your bid by email or SMS. It may take up to four hours to send an email. Please also check your spam folder. As a rule, all communication about your bid will be sent by email. If you would also like to receive an alert by SMS, please be sure to indicate your mobile number when submitting your bid.
  5. If your upgrade bid is accepted, you will be informed by email and/or SMS 23 hours before your scheduled departure. In such cases, the bid amount will be charged to your credit card, and your booking will be changed to the BEST fare.

In such cases you will need to download your updated boarding pass from our website or using the Eurowings app, or pick it up at the check-in counter. If you fail to do this, you will not pass the security check at the airport.

If your bid is not accepted, you will receive no notification, will pay nothing and will fly in the class originally booked.

 Note:
For technical and legal reasons, it is unfortunately no longer possible to submit an upgrade bid for group bookings, for bookings made through other airlines or for bookings made on behalf of unaccompanied minors.

  Please note:
A bid can only be considered if you have not yet checked into your flight.

The target booking class represents your original booking class; you are only receiving a higher-quality service class. In other words, the fare conditions for your originally booked ticket in the SMART fare, the cancellation conditions, booking change fees and mileage credit will remain unchanged. All services that you booked will remain within the same scope.

Accepted upgrade bids are not transferable, not eligible for reimbursement and apply only to the flight indicated and the stated date. This is also the case if you originally booked a SMART-FLEX fare.

You will receive Boomerang Club or Miles & More miles according to the booking class that you originally booked.

How does the Bid for BEST payment process work and what payment options are available for my Bid for BEST bid?

You need a valid credit card to participate in Bid for BEST. No additional costs are incurred for payments made via credit card. It is not possible to redeem miles.

You will only pay for the upgrade if your bid is accepted. During the selection process we may check your credit card coverage and authorise your credit card for the appropriate amount, but this does not guarantee that you will receive the upgrade. Your card will only be charged once your upgrade is confirmed. You will receive a payment notification 23 hours before the scheduled departure time.

If you do not receive an upgrade, you will not receive any notification and your credit card will not be charged.

You cannot pay for the upgrade with two different credit cards. Payment can be made only in one transaction and with one credit card.

  Please note:
The amount of your bid includes all taxes due or payable in advance, as well as all fees for the relevant upgrade. You may incur foreign-currency fees if you pay for your bid in a currency that does not match the currency of your credit card account.
Bids for an upgrade can only be paid in the currency in which you paid for your original booking.

Whether and in what amount you will incur additional costs depends on the conditions of your credit card agreement. The bank issuing the credit card can give you more information about this. 

  Note:
Before submitting your bid, please check your payment details carefully. Payment details can no longer be corrected or changed after the bid is submitted. A bid submitted with incorrect payment information will automatically be invalidated and thus will not be considered.

How can I change or cancel my Bid for BEST bid?

You can change or cancel your bid free of charge up to 24 hours before departure by clicking on the Edit link included in the email confirming your bid. Alternatively, you can access the “Bid for BEST” page by going to “My Flight”/”My Eurowings” at eurowings.com. Here you can also view the status of your bid.

According to what criteria does Eurowings rate my Bid for BEST bid?

We take various criteria into consideration in rating the upgrade bids, including the amount of your bid and those of the other bids, the number of seats available in the BEST fare category and the number of passengers in the booking. After we have completed our rating, we will notify you by email and/or SMS if your upgrade bid has been accepted. If your bid is not accepted, we cannot offer an explanation, as numerous factors go into the selection process.

To increase your chance of getting an upgrade, you should indicate the highest possible amount that you are willing to pay right from the start. If your bid has not been accepted, you cannot submit a new bid.

The Bid for BEST page will show you how strong your bid is. Bid for BEST is an upgrade auction, not a contest. For this reason, the strength of your bid is an important rating criterion.

Can I change my Bid for BEST upgrade booking or cancel it?

A Bid for BEST upgrade cannot be refunded and applies only to the flight for which you originally placed the bid. If you would like to change your booking anyway, we cannot guarantee that a seat in the BEST fare will be available, and your entitlement to an upgrade will lapse.

If you cancel your ticket, the amount you paid for the upgrade will be cancelled regardless of the cancellation rules applicable to the ticket. However, you can cancel your Bid for BEST bid up to 24 hours before departure.

What happens to my Bid for BEST upgrade if I miss my flight or my flight booking is changed due to flight irregularities?

If you miss a flight due to your own fault, your entitlement to the Bid for BEST upgrade will lapse and your upgrade payment will not be reimbursable.

If flight irregularities occur on Eurowings and your booking is changed to an alternative flight, you are still fully entitled to a seat in the BEST area after you have received an upgrade. If there is not enough seating in the BEST area or you are asked to travel in another aircraft that is not equipped with a BEST area, you are entitled to a reimbursement of the amount paid for the upgrade. How do I book a flight?

We offer a variety of booking options tailored to your individual needs. Choose from the following:

Book online

Book your flight quickly and conveniently from work, home or when you're on the go.

  1. Under "Booking", choose the "Book flights" menu option and select your departure and arrival airports, your preferred flight dates and the number of passengers.
  2. After you have confirmed your entries by clicking on the "Search for flight" button, you all available flights that match your search criteria will be displayed, including prices and fare conditions.
  3. Follow the instructions step by step until you have completed the booking process.
  4. At the end of the booking process you will receive a booking confirmation number or etix® ticket number. You will need this number for check-in and to further manage your flight.

 Note:
You can pay for online bookings with a credit card, PayPal, a voucher, on account or by direct debit. Direct-debit payments are possible up to  5 days before departure.

Book on your mobile phone

Booking doesn't get any more flexible than this: book your flight using the browser on your Internet-enabled mobile phone. If you have a smartphone, it's even easier: download the Eurowings app for iPhone or Android.

Book by telephone

We will be happy to give you personal assistance with your booking for a processing fee and will answer any questions you may have, for example regarding excess luggage or travelling with children.

Book at the counter

Of course, you can also book your flight in person right at the Eurowings counter of the departure location in question for a flat advisory fee.

Can I also book flights on my mobile phone?

Convenience at your fingertips, anytime and anywhere: the mobile services from Eurowings allow you to find and book our attractive flights in just a few steps. Whether you use your Internet-enabled mobile phone or the even easier Eurowings app for iPhone or Android, it couldn't be more flexible!

  1. In our mobile view, click on "Book flights" and choose your preferred departure and destination airports. Also enter the travel dates and number of passengers. All available flights will then be displayed, and you can choose between our three fares: BASIC, SMART and BEST.
  2. To complete the booking process, please follow the instructions step by step.

etix® is an electronic ticket that replaces paper tickets. It has a 13-digit number in addition to your booking code. You receive this etix® ticket number under certain circumstances, for example if you book through the Lufthansa website or a travel agent. It is saved for you in the etix® database. When you present your etix® ticket number and a photo ID, you will receive your boarding pass.

The connection between ${originairport} and ${destinationairport} is carried out by our partner, Condor. You can book your flight directly with Condor. Would you like to be automatically redirected to Condor?

When flying from, to or over certain countries* airlines are required by law to collect certain data through the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) and to forward it to the authorities of those countries prior to the flight.

The following information is required:

  • Title
  • First name and surname
  • Date and country of birth
  • Gender
  • Nationality
  • Passport information
     

Additional APIS information is required for entry into the USA:

  • Country of residency
  • Destination airport
  • Complete address of your destination (street, city, postal code, state/province, country) 

Passengers who book online can enter this information immediately after completing their booking. Any missing information can be added later by going to 'My Eurowings'.

To avoid unnecessary delays at the check-in counter, we recommend that you submit the APIS information as early as possible using our online form.

Travelling with children

We can only transport children under the age of 12 at the time of travel if they travel with a responsible companion who has reached majority. Children and the accompanying adult must belong to the same booking (with the same booking number). If this is not the case, please contact our call centre no later than 3 days before departure.

In event that the accompanying adult is not a parent or legal guardian, we will need written permission from a parent or a legal guardian. Please use the form provided for this purpose. Without this written permission, we regret that we will have to refuse carriage.
On direct flights within Germany, childen ages 5 through 11 may travel with Eurowings without an accompanying adult (unaccompanied minors). Our child-friendly staff will care for your child and ensure that he or she reaches the destination airport safely.

Infants under the age of 2 are not entitled to a seat. Instead, they are transported on the lap of an adult and secured with a seatbelt (loop belt).

Alternatively, we offer transport in a child safety seat in a separate seat. Bookings may only be made through the call centre or at one of our airport counters. Online booking is excluded.
