 Note:
Direct debit arrangements may vary for flights booked with our partner airlines at eurowings.com

What options are available to me if I am unable to take my flight?

If you are unable to take your flight, you have three options:

1. Change your booking to another date

Flight bookings can be changed to another available date up to 30 minutes before departure, provided that the flight will be taken by the same person on the same route and is on our published flight schedule. You can change your booking online, via our mobile services or by phoning our call centre. If you have added the Flex option to your SMART or BEST fare booking, you can change your flight free of charge up to 30 minutes before departure. For other bookings, a fixed charge per passenger and per journey leg will be applied. The applicable amount can be found in our table of charges (Article 17 "BKG" and "NC1"). The flight price is determined by the fare that applies to the route at the time you change the booking. If the new flight is more expensive, you must pay the difference in price as well as the booking change fee. However, refunds will not be given if the new flight that is lower in price.

Changing your booking online

  1. Log in to "My flight" using your username and password.
  2. In the overview of your booked flights, select the flight you wish to change.
  3. Enter the new flight date.

Changes to flights made online must be made within the same fare. If you wish to change your fare, you can do so up to 72 hours before departure by telephone or at the airport counter.

Charges
Booking changes will incur a fixed charge and, if appropriate, the fare difference. We will also charge an administration fee for changes made via telephone or in person. This does not apply to flights booked with the Flex option.

 Note:
If you have an etix® ticket number rather than a booking number, or if you have booked a flight operated by one of our partner airlines at eurowings.com or in a travel agency, please contact the relevant airline or your travel agency regarding this matter.
All regulations apply to Eurowings flights with an EW or 4U flight number, regardless of the operating airline. For our partner airlines' flights, which do not have an EW or 4U flight number, the conditions of the respective airline apply. These can be viewed on the airlines' own websites. These partner airlines currently include Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor, United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

2. Name change

You can transfer your flight to another person by telephone on payment of a charge, but only up to 30 minutes before departure (or in the case of bookings of multiple journey legs, up to 30 minutes before the first flight departs). Please have your booking number ready when you call.

Charges
If the current flight price is higher than the flight you originally booked, you will be required to pay the difference.

 Note:
If your booking has an etix® ticket number, it is not possible to change a name for a Eurowings flight.

3. Cancellation

If you have added the Flex option to your SMART or BEST fare booking, you may cancel your flight up to 30 minutes before departure free of charge. Unfortunately, other bookings cannot be cancelled on account of their low prices. However, the flight dates can be changed online in the "My flight" area. Alternatively, you can call us to have the flights transferred to another person; a charge will apply.

There are four ways to cancel a flight booked with the SMART or BEST fare with the Flex option:

  • Here via our website
  • Via our mobile services under "Manage flights"
  • Via our call centre
  • At our airport counters.

With the Flex option, bookings may also be cancelled after the original travel date has passed. This option is free of charge, but flights must be cancelled on the same day as the original scheduled departure date by phone or in person at our airport counters. If a booking is changed or cancelled after the original departure date, a fixed charge will apply.

Can I cancel my booking?

If you selected the Flex option when booking your SMART or BEST fare, you can cancel your flight up to 30 minutes prior to departure at no extra charge. There are four ways to do this:

  • Via our website under "My flight"
  • Via our mobile services under "Manage flights"
  • Via our call centre
  • At our airport counters

With the Flex option, flights can also be cancelled after the time of the original departure has passed, as long as this is done on the same calendar day as the departure of the original flight, either by telephone via the call centre or in person at the airport counter. If the flight is not cancelled until after the original departure date, a charge will be incurred.

If you have selected another fare, your booking cannot be cancelled due to the low-cost price of the flight.

Can I add luggage to an existing booking?

Yes, luggage can be added to a booking up to 30 minutes before departure. If this is done online via "Book add-ons", via mobile in the "Manage bookings" area, or via telephone, the usual additional charges apply. You will pay more if you register your luggage when you get to the airport counter.

Adding luggage to a booking online

  1. Log in on the page "Book add-ons".
  2. You will see an overview of your flights with all the services you have booked.
  3. Simply add your luggage or excess luggage.

If you book your first piece of luggage up to 23 kg on the website, a surcharge of €9 - 30 per route and passenger (the exact amount depends on the route) will apply. This amount is increased to €18 - 60 (the exact amount depends on the route) for bookings at the airport counter. If you check in more than one bag weighing 23 kg, an additional charge will apply.

Excess luggage

Excess luggage can either be registered online or via telephone at the time of booking or added at a later date via the "My flight" area. Excess luggage can also be added via our mobile services in the "Add services" area. If this is not done, a higher fixed charge will apply when checking in excess luggage at the airport.

Special luggage

Special luggage includes sports equipment, pushchairs and cots and is subject to special terms. Please label each item of luggage to be checked in with your name or another personal mark.

 Note:
Special terms apply for passengers travelling with sports equipment and special luggage.
If you don't have a booking number but instead have an etix® ticket number, or if you have booked a Eurowings flight with one of our partner airlines or in a travel agency, then luggage regulations may vary. Please contact the relevant airline or your travel agency.
All regulations apply to Eurowings flights with an EW or 4U flight number, regardless of the operating airline. For our partner airlines' flights, which do not have an EW or 4U flight number, the conditions of the respective airline apply. These can be viewed on the airlines' own websites. Can I carry musical instruments in the cabin as hand luggage?

Yes, musical instruments may be carried on board as hand luggage as long as they are no larger than a guitar and are packed in a soft case.

Larger musical instruments must be placed on an extra seat in the cabin.

The charges applicable for travelling with musical instruments can be found in this table.

Exception:
Double basses must be transported in a hard case and checked in as luggage. Due to their size, they may not be carried in the cabin.

Extra seat

If you book an extra seat via telephone before midnight on the same day as you book your flight, the extra seat will cost the same as your own seat and there will be no extra charge. If an extra seat is added later, it will be charged at the current flight price as shown on the Internet.

 Note:
Eurowings accepts no liability for musical instruments carried in the cabin.
All regulations apply to Eurowings flights with an EW or 4U flight number, regardless of the operating airline. Didn't book online?
Not a problem. Please phone our call centre and we will send your booking confirmation to you again.

As a last resort, you can also check in at our counters without a booking number by simply presenting your identification documents.

If so, please contact the appropriate airline or your travel agent. Our current partner airlines are Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor, United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

If you do not cancel your flight until after the original departure date, a charge will be incurred.

Please note that if the flight date is changed online, this can only be done within the same fare. If you would like to upgrade your fare (e.g. from BASIC to SMART), you can do so up to 72 hours prior to departure via telephone or at the airport counter.

  2. In the overview of your booked flights, select the flight you wish to change.

Changes to flights made online must be made within the same fare. If you wish to change your fare, you can do so up to 72 hours before departure by telephone or at the airport counter.

Charges

These partner airlines currently include Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor, United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

2. Name change

You can transfer your flight to another person by telephone on payment of a charge, but only up to 30 minutes before departure (or in the case of bookings of multiple journey legs, up to 30 minutes before the first flight departs). Please have your booking number ready when you call.

Charges
If the current flight price is higher than the flight you originally booked, you will be required to pay the difference.

 Note:

However, the flight dates can be changed online in the "My flight" area. Alternatively, you can call us to have the flights transferred to another person; a charge will apply.

There are four ways to cancel a flight booked with the SMART or BEST fare with the Flex option:

  • Via our mobile services under "Manage flights"
  • Via our call centre
  • At our airport counters.

With the Flex option, bookings may also be cancelled after the original travel date has passed. If a booking is changed or cancelled after the original departure date, a fixed charge will apply.

 Note:

Can I change my flight booking?

You can change the date of your Eurowings flight up to 30 minutes prior to departure, as long as the flight will be taken by the same person on the same route and within our published flight schedule. You can make the change online or using your mobile phone, via our call centre or at the airport counter.

If you decide to change your booking via telephone or in person, an additional processing charge will be incurred, unless you booked your flight with the Flex option.

Changing the date of your flight

  1. Log in to "My flight" using your username and password. There you will find a summary of your booked flights.
  2. Select the flight you wish to change.
  3. Enter the new flight date.

You can then change your flight on payment of a charge and, if necessary, on payment of the difference in fare for your new flight date.

If you booked your flight with the Flex option, you can change your flight at no extra charge up to 30 minutes prior to the planned departure time of the affected flight online, using your mobile, via telephone or in person at the airport counter. The Flex option also allows you to change the flight date after the planned departure time, as long as this is done on the same calendar day as the departure of the original flight, via our call centre or in person at the airport counter.

 Note:
If you have an etix® ticket number instead of a booking number, or if you have booked a flight operated by one of our partner airlines at eurowings.com or you have booked a Eurowings flight with one of our partner airlines or in a travel agency, please contact the relevant partner airline or your travel agency regarding this matter.

Changing the passenger name

You can transfer your flight to another person up to 30 minutes prior to departure via telephone on payment of a charge and by giving the booking number. Please note that if multiple legs have been booked as part of the journey, the passenger name may only be changed up to ${Buchungsänderung Zeit vor Abflug} prior to the planned departure of the first flight.

Costs

If the current flight price is higher than the price you originally paid, you must pay the difference in the fares.

 Note:
If your Eurowings flight booking has an etix® ticket number, it is unfortunately not possible to change the passenger name.

What is the Flex option?

If you have opted for a SMART or BEST fare, you can add the Flex option during the booking process. It can be chosen separately for outgoing and return flights.

Changing bookings

Flights with the Flex option can be changed to another travel date at no extra cost up to 30 minutes before departure – provided the same passenger boards the same flight on the same route within our published flight schedule.

Cancellations

Can't make your flight? The Flex option lets you cancel your flight at no extra cost up to 30 minutes before departure – online, on your mobile phone, by telephone or in person at the airport counter.

Even after the flight departs, it is still possible to change or cancel it with the Flex option. However, this must be done by telephone or in person at the airport counter on the same day as the originally scheduled travel date. If the flight is changed or cancelled after it has already departed, we must unfortunately charge a flat fee.

Other Germanwings bookings cannot be cancelled due to their low fares.

Can I change or cancel my Blind Booking flight?

More information on the applicable charges can be found here.

When will the payment be debited from my account?

Payment for your trip is due as soon as your booking is confirmed. Debiting can take up to a few days depending on your bank, so you must ensure there are sufficient funds in your account until the payment has been debited.

What does "Payment status: declined/pending" mean on the pages "My bookings" or "Booking changes"?

The status display under "My flight" or "View booking" allows you to track the status of your payment and see when your payment has been debited successfully.

Declined

The status "Declined" is displayed if the payment could not be completed for some reason or if your direct debit has been returned.

Please note that if payment is unsuccessful, reservations may be cancelled without warning in accordance with the Conditions of Carriage (item 4.5).

Pending

The status "Pending" means that authorisation is still in progress, but your seat is reserved. If payment is unsuccessful, the status will change to "Declined".

Confirmed

If the status "Confirmed" is displayed, both your payment and reservation have been successfully completed and your flight booking has been confirmed.

If you have any questions about your payment status, our competent employees at our call centre will be happy to advise you.

You can check the status of your payment here.

Are my credit card details safe when I book online?

To ensure that your credit cards and personal information are kept as secure as possible, we use the most up-to-date Secure Sockets Layer technology (SSL with 128-bit encryption). This is the most secure method of transferring sensitive data over the Internet. We also meet the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS).

The common certification standard of international payment systems ensures secure processing and storage of all payment card details. At the beginning of 2010, Germanwings was one of the first European airlines to achieve conformity with the PCI DSS and prove this in an audit by the independent accredited auditing firm SRC Security Research & Consulting GmbH.

We recommend that you use the latest version of your browser to ensure that your transactions are processed securely.

A complete list of names of all group members must be provided to Eurowings at the latest 4 working days before departure.
  5. Booking changes/cancellation
Bookings may be changed (flight times or dates) before departure and will incur an additional charge (per person and journey leg) plus the difference in the new flight price, if applicable. After the scheduled departure time, changes may no longer be made. For groups of 12 travellers or more, 10% of the group (rounded down to the nearest individual) may cancel up to a month before departure and will receive a full reimbursement. Additional passengers (1–9 people) may only be added separately online or via the call centre at the current Eurowings flight price (subject to availability).
  6. Refusal of carriage for a group member
If a group member is refused carriage for good cause, the remaining group members do not have the right to cancel the booking. The obligation to pay the Group Booking price still stands.
In addition, the General Conditions of Carriage (GCC) apply, insofar as no contradictory clause exists in the General Conditions for Group Bookings.

 Note:
All regulations apply to Eurowings flights with an EW or 4U flight number, regardless of the operating airline. For our partner airlines' flights, which do not have an EW or 4U flight number, the conditions of the respective airline apply. These can be viewed on the airlines' own websites. These partner airlines currently include Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor, United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

What conditions apply for flight vouchers?
  • Eurowings accepts no liability for loss of vouchers or voucher codes and will not issue replacements.
  • Vouchers may only be used for private purposes. Other uses such as selling vouchers on the Internet for commercial purposes, either yourself or through third parties, are not permitted without prior authorisation from Eurowings.

Further information can be found in the Terms of Use.

Click here to view the GCC, which apply for the purchase and redemption of vouchers.

Promotional vouchers

Separate Terms of use apply for promotional vouchers given away in competitions or as part of marketing campaigns.
