Low prices, flight offers, taxes & charges

The most frequently asked questions

Is it ever cheaper to make a new booking than to change an existing booking?

Yes, because when changing a booking, the price class may be kept the same or raised, but not lowered. In addition, our flight prices are sometimes reduced to such an extent during campaigns that it is well worth making a new booking.

Don't just take our word for it! View our flight offers here.

What is included in the ticket price?

The low ticket price that you see in the first step of the booking process includes the total ticket price including all taxes and charges.

If you add additional services to your booking that are subject to charges, the additional charges will be shown when you select them. You must pay these on top of the ticket price.

How can bulky items be transported?

If you are unable to pack your luggage in a compact container, it must be checked in as oversize luggage. As long as such luggage does not exceed a weight of 23 kg it can be treated as normal luggage, and therefore only the standard surcharge will be applied. You may take a maximum of 5 items of luggage weighing no more than 32 kg per person.

If your oversize luggage exceeds a weight of 23 kg, a charge will be applied.

Please note that special conditions apply for sports equipment, wheelchairs and pushchairs.

 Note:
If your booking has an etix® ticket number or if you have booked a Eurowings flight with one of our partner airlines or in a travel agency, please contact the relevant airline or your travel agency for more information as luggage requirements may vary.
All regulations apply to Eurowings flights with an EW or 4U flight number, regardless of the operating airline. For our partner airlines' flights, which do not have an EW or 4U flight number, the conditions of the respective airline apply. These can be viewed on the airlines' own websites. These partner airlines currently include
Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor, United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

Yes, musical instruments may be carried on board as hand luggage as long as they are no larger than a guitar and are packed in a soft case.

Larger musical instruments must be placed on an extra seat in the cabin.

The charges applicable for travelling with musical instruments can be found in this table.

Exception:
Double basses must be transported in a hard case and checked in as luggage. Due to their size, they may not be carried in the cabin.

Extra seat

If you book an extra seat via telephone before midnight on the same day as you book your flight, the extra seat will cost the same as your own seat and there will be no extra charge. If an extra seat is added later, it will be charged at the current flight price as shown on the Internet.

 Note:
Eurowings accepts no liability for musical instruments carried in the cabin.
All regulations apply to Eurowings flights with an EW or 4U flight number, regardless of the operating airline. What options are available to me if I am unable to take my flight?

If you are unable to take your flight, you have three options:

1. Change your booking to another date

Flight bookings can be changed to another available date up to 30 minutes before departure, provided that the flight will be taken by the same person on the same route and is on our published flight schedule. You can change your booking online, via our mobile services or by phoning our call centre. If you have added the Flex option to your SMART or BEST fare booking, you can change your flight free of charge up to 30 minutes before departure. For other bookings, a fixed charge per passenger and per journey leg will be applied. The applicable amount can be found in our table of charges (Article 17 "BKG" and "NC1"). The flight price is determined by the fare that applies to the route at the time you change the booking. If the new flight is more expensive, you must pay the difference in price as well as the booking change fee. However, refunds will not be given if the new flight that is lower in price.

Changing your booking online

  1. Log in to "My flight" using your username and password.
  2. In the overview of your booked flights, select the flight you wish to change.
  3. Enter the new flight date.

Changes to flights made online must be made within the same fare. If you wish to change your fare, you can do so up to 72 hours before departure by telephone or at the airport counter.

Charges
Booking changes will incur a fixed charge and, if appropriate, the fare difference. We will also charge an administration fee for changes made via telephone or in person. This does not apply to flights booked with the Flex option.

 Note:
If you have an etix® ticket number rather than a booking number, or if you have booked a flight operated by one of our partner airlines at eurowings.com or in a travel agency, please contact the relevant airline or your travel agency regarding this matter.
All regulations apply to Eurowings flights with an EW or 4U flight number, regardless of the operating airline. For our partner airlines' flights, which do not have an EW or 4U flight number, the conditions of the respective airline apply. These can be viewed on the airlines' own websites. These partner airlines currently include Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor, United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

2. Name change

You can transfer your flight to another person by telephone on payment of a charge, but only up to 30 minutes before departure (or in the case of bookings of multiple journey legs, up to 30 minutes before the first flight departs). Please have your booking number ready when you call.

Charges
If the current flight price is higher than the flight you originally booked, you will be required to pay the difference.

 Note:
If your booking has an etix® ticket number, it is not possible to change a name for a Eurowings flight.

3. Cancellation

If you have added the Flex option to your SMART or BEST fare booking, you may cancel your flight up to 30 minutes before departure free of charge. Unfortunately, other bookings cannot be cancelled on account of their low prices. However, the flight dates can be changed online in the "My flight" area. Alternatively, you can call us to have the flights transferred to another person; a charge will apply.

There are four ways to cancel a flight booked with the SMART or BEST fare with the Flex option:

  • Here via our website
  • Via our mobile services under "Manage flights"
  • Via our call centre
  • At our airport counters.

With the Flex option, bookings may also be cancelled after the original travel date has passed. This option is free of charge, but flights must be cancelled on the same day as the original scheduled departure date by phone or in person at our airport counters. If a booking is changed or cancelled after the original departure date, a fixed charge will apply.

Can I change my flight booking?

You can change the date of your Eurowings flight up to 30 minutes prior to departure, as long as the flight will be taken by the same person on the same route and within our published flight schedule. You can make the change online or using your mobile phone, via our call centre or at the airport counter.

If you decide to change your booking via telephone or in person, an additional processing charge will be incurred, unless you booked your flight with the Flex option.

Changing the date of your flight

  1. Log in to "My flight" using your username and password. There you will find a summary of your booked flights.
  2. Select the flight you wish to change.
  3. Enter the new flight date.

You can then change your flight on payment of a charge and, if necessary, on payment of the difference in fare for your new flight date.

If you booked your flight with the Flex option, you can change your flight at no extra charge up to 30 minutes prior to the planned departure time of the affected flight online, using your mobile, via telephone or in person at the airport counter. The Flex option also allows you to change the flight date after the planned departure time, as long as this is done on the same calendar day as the departure of the original flight, via our call centre or in person at the airport counter. If you do not cancel your flight until after the original departure date, a charge will be incurred.

Please note that if the flight date is changed online, this can only be done within the same fare. If you would like to upgrade your fare (e.g. from BASIC to SMART), you can do so up to 72 hours prior to departure via telephone or at the airport counter.

 Note:
If you have an etix® ticket number instead of a booking number, or if you have booked a flight operated by one of our partner airlines at eurowings.com or you have booked a Eurowings flight with one of our partner airlines or in a travel agency, please contact the relevant partner airline or your travel agency regarding this matter.

Changing the passenger name

You can transfer your flight to another person up to 30 minutes prior to departure via telephone on payment of a charge and by giving the booking number. Please note that if multiple legs have been booked as part of the journey, the passenger name may only be changed up to ${Buchungsänderung Zeit vor Abflug} prior to the planned departure of the first flight.

Costs

If the current flight price is higher than the price you originally paid, you must pay the difference in the fares.

 Note:
If your Eurowings flight booking has an etix® ticket number, it is unfortunately not possible to change the passenger name.

What is important to know about luggage on a one-stop flight?

After you have handed over your luggage during check-in at the departure airport, it is automatically checked in through to your destination, allowing you to transfer conveniently without your luggage.

Attention:
For customs reasons, it is unfortunately not possible to check luggage through on flights from non-Schengen1 and/or non-EU departure airports such as Istanbul or Izmir with a transfer in Berlin. For this reason, we ask you to collect your luggage after you arrive in Berlin and proceed with it to the Eurowings transfer counter in the main hall. There you will get your boarding pass for your onward flight. The transfer counter is marked with signs and is located right next to the regular check-in counter – just 100 metres from the luggage claim hall.

Charges

The luggage surcharge and any surcharge for excess luggage are only due once and cover the entire route, from the departure location through the transfer location to the destination airport.

Click here to find out where to get your boarding pass for your onward flight.

 Note:
All regulations apply to Eurowings flights with an EW or 4U flight number, regardless of the operating airline. For our partner airlines' flights, which do not have an EW or 4U flight number, the conditions of the respective airline apply. These can be viewed on the airlines' own websites. These partner airlines currently include Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor, United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

Why do taxes sometimes vary on identical routes?

On domestic German flights, both the net ticket price and all charges are subject to value-added tax. Ticket prices of different amounts therefore mean different amounts of value-added tax. Moreover, on some flights and some sale tickets, Eurowings covers a portion of the charges due.

When will the payment be debited from my account?

Payment for your trip is due as soon as your booking is confirmed. Debiting can take up to a few days depending on your bank, so you must ensure there are sufficient funds in your account until the payment has been debited.

Can I change or cancel my Blind Booking flight?

You can change the travel dates and the names in your booking, but only via our call centre. You will have to pay the call centre charge, the booking change fee and the price difference for the new flight. Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the route you have booked.

Please note that Blind Booking flights may not be cancelled.

More information on the applicable charges can be found here.

What taxes and charges are levied?

All charges levied by third parties are included in the ticket price.

Charges comprise the following:

  1. Airport charges

    • Aviation security fees
    • Airport/civil aviation taxes
    • Handling charges at departure and destination airports
  2. Value-added tax (on German domestic flights)
  3. German air traffic tax (for departures from Germany)
Based on distance: taxes in the amount of €7.50 or €23.43 (Egypt and Israel)
    (plus 19% VAT within Germany)

 Note:
The composition of charges may vary for flights with our partner airlines. Our current partner airlines are Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor, United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

Are discounts available for children?

Yes, if children under two years travel on an adult's lap, secured with a loop belt, a fixed service fee of €15 is applicable for each leg of the flight. An extra seat will not be provided.

Children between the ages of two and 11 years (inclusive) and infants who sit in a booster seat in their own seat will receive a 20% discount on the flight price, but not on additional charges. As a rule, the child's age at the time of boarding the final flight of the booking applies.

Exceptions:

  • €33 flights
  • Promotional tickets
  • Blind Booking flights
  • All BEST fares

Please note that this offer only applies to new bookings made over the internet, via our call centre or at our airport counters.

Discounts for children also apply to bookings made via our partner airlines and in travel agencies. More information on this can be obtained from the relevant airline or travel agency.

 Note:
All regulations apply to Eurowings flights with an EW or 4U flight number, regardless of the operating airline. For our partner airlines' flights, which do not have an EW or 4U flight number, the conditions of the respective airline apply. These can be viewed on the airlines' own websites. These partner airlines currently include Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor, United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

Is my award flight subject to taxes and fees?

Yes. Award flights are subject to regular taxes and fees and any additional charges. These will be displayed when you book your award flight.

Can billing addresses or bank details be changed after booking?

No, after a booking has been completed it is no longer possible to change your details.
