Check-in & web check-in

The most frequently asked questions

Are there restrictions on the number and weight of items of luggage?

Each passenger may check in up to 5 items of luggage, each of which may not weigh more than 32 kg.

 Note:

If you do not have a booking number but instead have an etix® ticket number, or if you have booked a Eurowings flight with one of our partner airlines or in a travel agency, luggage regulations may vary.
All regulations apply to Eurowings flights with an EW or 4U flight number, regardless of the operating airline. For our partner airlines' flights, which do not have an EW or 4U flight number, the conditions of the respective airline apply. These can be viewed on the airlines' own websites. These partner airlines currently include
Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor, United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

What are the advantages of web check-in?

Quick and convenient: with web check-in you can check in from 72 hours before departure from your office, home, or anywhere, print out your boarding pass and reserve a seat.

Advantages at a glance:

  • Check-in is available 72 hours before departure
  • No long waiting times
  • You can reserve your own seat and print out your boarding pass

How does check-in work?

There are various options available for checking in:

1. Check-in counter at the airport

A selection list of all our destination airports and corresponding information on check-in counters there can be found on the page "Airports and Terminals".

2. Self-service check-in

Passengers can use our convenient self-service check-in option at Berlin, Cologne/Bonn, Dresden, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Hanover, Nuremberg, London Heathrow, Stuttgart and Vienna airports.

Here too, your hand luggage must not weigh more than 8 kg or exceed the maximum dimensions of 55 x 40 x 23 cm.

If you would like to take larger or heavier luggage with you, you can use our baggage drop-off counter. This is much faster than the check-in counter, as this counter is only available to those dropping off luggage.

3. Web check-in

On the "web check-in" page you can check in comfortably from your office or from home. This option has the clear advantage of saving time and stress, as you can check all travellers in at the same time. All you need is your six-digit booking code or your etix® ticket number and a printer.

Go to web check-in

4. Mobile check-in

The Eurowings mobile services allow you to check in whilst on the move using just your mobile phone with an internet connection. You can check in via your browser or, even more conveniently, via the Eurowings app. This method simply requires your six-digit booking code and the surname under which the booking was made. During the check-in process you can choose whether to receive your boarding pass via SMS or email, or whether you would prefer to save your boarding pass in Passbook or in the Eurowings app.

We ask for your understanding that we are unable to allow check-in the evening before departure.

 Note:

How can I check in with my mobile phone?

You can check in with your mobile phone at the earliest 72 hours and at the latest 3 hours before departure. You can check in with your mobile phone for domestic flights at all German departure airports and at many other European departure airports even up to 30 minutes before departure.

How it works:

  1. Use the mobile services homepage, the "Check-in" item or the "Manage flights" area in the main menu to check in with your mobile phone.
  2. You will need your six-digit booking number and the surname under which the booking was made.
  3. During the check-in process you can choose whether to receive your boarding pass by SMS or email, or whether you would prefer to save your boarding pass in Passbook or in the Eurowings app.

If you have a My Eurowings account and are registered to use our mobile services, under "Check-in" you will find an overview of flights for which you are now able to check in. If you are a registered customer, we will also remind you on your personalised homepage 72 hours before departure that your flight is now ready for check-in.

 Note:
All regulations apply to Eurowings flights with an EW or 4U flight number, regardless of the operating airline. For our partner airlines' flights, which do not have an EW or 4U flight number, the conditions of the respective airline apply. These can be viewed on the airlines' own websites. These partner airlines currently include Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor, United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

Can I use my Eurowings boarding pass to enter the Lufthansa Senator or Business Lounge?

Passengers who book our BEST fare are entitled to lounge access at selected airports.

HON Circle members and Senators are entitled to lounge access on Eurowings flights, regardless of the fare. This includes all Lufthansa lounges and partner lounges in Germany and Europe as well as the lounges at the BEST departure points.

If you have Frequent Traveller status and you book a SMART fare, you are entitled to use all Lufthansa lounges and Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and SWISS lounges in Germany and Europe.

Can I select a seat during check-in?

Yes, seats can be selected for all Eurowings flights. If you check in at one of our counters, you will be assigned a seat, but if you choose web check-in, mobile check-in or self-service check-in, you will be able to reserve a seat at no extra cost.1

1 Does not apply to seats with more legroom.

How does web check-in work?
  1. Enter your six-digit booking number or your etix® ticket number on the "Web check-in" page, and then enter your surname or the surname of one of the passengers on your booking.
  2. You can now check in all passengers in your booking at the same time, including infants.
  3. You can now also reserve a seat.
  4. To finish, simply print out your boarding pass.

You can use the web check-in function at the earliest 72 hours and at the latest 3 hours before departure, and at German departure airports up to 30 minutes before departure (exception: Karlsruhe, Baden-Baden and Heringsdorf on the island of Usedom). At London Heathrow, due to the size of this international airport, web check-in is only available up to 45 minutes prior to departure. In Palma de Mallorca web check-in is only available up to 45 minutes prior to departure. In Amsterdam web check-in is only available up to 40 minutes prior to departure. In Moscow Domodedovo web check-in is only available up to 45 minutes prior to departure.

Luggage

As you already have a boarding pass, if you are only travelling with hand luggage you may go straight to the gate. If you have special luggage, excess baggage or luggage you wish to check in, please use the check-in counter. At the airports Berlin, Hanover, Cologne/Bonn, Munich and Stuttgart you can also use the baggage drop-off counter that we have set up exclusively for checking in luggage.

Other additional services

As soon as the web check-in process is complete, it is no longer possible to book other additional services online. However, you will be able to register additional luggage to be checked in for an extra charge at the airport counter.

 Note:
Please note that it is only possible to check in for Eurowings flights at eurowings.com. For flights operated by our partner airlines, please use the online check-in function for the relevant airline. The online check-in terms of the relevant airline apply. Our current partner airlines are Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor, United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

Will I receive a ticket when I book a flight?

No. Depending on the type of booking, you will receive a booking confirmation number or etix® ticket number instead of a ticket from us. When you present this at the counter or enter this number during web or mobile check-in or at the self-service check-in kiosk, you will receive your boarding pass.

 Important:
When you book flights with our partner airlines, you will receive booking confirmations by email only. Our current partner airlines are Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor, United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

When and where do I get my boarding pass for a connecting flight?

Flights starting at a German departure airport with connections in Cologne, Stuttgart, Hanover or Berlin

If you take off from a Eurowings departure airport in Germany (except for Friedrichshafen and Rostock-Laage) and change to a connecting flight in Cologne, Stuttgart, Hanover or Berlin, you will get your boarding pass for the entire Eurowings journey at the departure airport.

All other flights with connections in …

… Cologne or Stuttgart
For all other Eurowings flights with connections in Cologne or Stuttgart, you will get your boarding pass for the connecting flight at the Eurowings transfer counter in the gate area of the airport where you change planes. Please follow signs.

… Hanover
If you change planes in Hanover, you will receive your boarding pass for the connecting flight at Eurowings transfer counter B213 in the departure hall of the airport where you change planes.

… Berlin
If you change planes in Berlin, you will receive your boarding pass for the connecting flight at the Eurowings transfer counter in the departure hall of the airport where you change planes.

 Important:
All regulations apply to Eurowings flights with an EW or 4U flight number, regardless of the operating airline. For our partner airlines' flights, which do not have an EW or 4U flight number, the conditions of the respective airline apply. These can be viewed on the airlines' own websites. These partner airlines currently include Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor, United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

What is an etix® ticket number?

etix® electronic tickets replace paper tickets and consist of a 13-digit number in addition to the booking code. A booking code is issued with every etix® ticket number.
For example, if you book your flight on lufthansa.com or through a travel agent, you will receive an etix® ticket number that is also saved in the etix® database. When you present your number and a photo ID at the airport counter, you will receive your boarding pass.

Why do I need to enter my personal information and travel document information to use the web and mobile check-in features?

For security reasons, airlines are obliged to report to foreign authorities the personal information of all passengers using the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS). This regulation generally covers the reporting of information on your identity and travel documents (passport, national ID card).

Passengers who book online can enter this information immediately after completing their booking. Any missing information can be added later by going to 'My Eurowings'.

What do I need for check-in?

You just need your booking number or your etix® ticket number and a valid ID.

Please make sure to find out well in advance of your flight about any visas or other entry documents you may require. The relevant consulate will be able to advise you on this matter.

Can I check my luggage in the evening before my flight?

Unfortunately it is not possible to check in the evening before your flight. Exception: You may check in free of charge between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. the evening before for all flights from Düsseldorf from 30 April 2016 (excluding flights to Pristina and Kütahya Zafer).

etix® is an electronic ticket that replaces paper tickets. It has a 13-digit number in addition to your booking code. You receive this etix® ticket number under certain circumstances, for example if you book through the Lufthansa website or a travel agent. It is saved for you in the etix® database. When you present your etix® ticket number and a photo ID, you will receive your boarding pass.

Travelling with children

We can only transport children under the age of 12 at the time of travel if they travel with a responsible companion who has reached majority. Children and the accompanying adult must belong to the same booking (with the same booking number). If this is not the case, please contact our call centre no later than 3 days before departure.

In event that the accompanying adult is not a parent or legal guardian, we will need written permission from a parent or a legal guardian. Please use the form provided for this purpose. Without this written permission, we regret that we will have to refuse carriage.
On direct flights within Germany, childen ages 5 through 11 may travel with Eurowings without an accompanying adult (unaccompanied minors). Our child-friendly staff will care for your child and ensure that he or she reaches the destination airport safely.

Infants under the age of 2 are not entitled to a seat. Instead, they are transported on the lap of an adult and secured with a seatbelt (loop belt).

Alternatively, we offer transport in a child safety seat in a separate seat. Bookings may only be made through the call centre or at one of our airport counters. Online booking is excluded.

Important: the valid age is that on the date of the last flight in the booking.
