One-stop flights

What is important to know about luggage on a one-stop flight?

After you have handed over your luggage during check-in at the departure airport, it is automatically checked in through to your destination, allowing you to transfer conveniently without your luggage.

Attention:
For customs reasons, it is unfortunately not possible to check luggage through on flights from non-Schengen1 and/or non-EU departure airports such as Istanbul or Izmir with a transfer in Berlin. For this reason, we ask you to collect your luggage after you arrive in Berlin and proceed with it to the Eurowings transfer counter in the main hall. There you will get your boarding pass for your onward flight. The transfer counter is marked with signs and is located right next to the regular check-in counter – just 100 metres from the luggage claim hall.

Charges

The luggage surcharge and any surcharge for excess luggage are only due once and cover the entire route, from the departure location through the transfer location to the destination airport.

Click here to find out where to get your boarding pass for your onward flight.

Note:
All regulations apply to Eurowings flights with an EW or 4U flight number, regardless of the operating airline. For our partner airlines' flights, which do not have an EW or 4U flight number, the conditions of the respective airline apply. These can be viewed on the airlines' own websites. These partner airlines currently include Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor, United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

1 For a list of the Schengen states, visit the website of the Federal Foreign Office.

When and where do I get my boarding pass for a connecting flight?

Flights starting at a German departure airport with connections in Cologne, Stuttgart, Hanover or Berlin

If you take off from a Eurowings departure airport in Germany (except for Friedrichshafen and Rostock-Laage) and change to a connecting flight in Cologne, Stuttgart, Hanover or Berlin, you will get your boarding pass for the entire Eurowings journey at the departure airport.

All other flights with connections in …

… Cologne or Stuttgart
For all other Eurowings flights with connections in Cologne or Stuttgart, you will get your boarding pass for the connecting flight at the Eurowings transfer counter in the gate area of the airport where you change planes. Please follow signs.

… Hanover
If you change planes in Hanover, you will receive your boarding pass for the connecting flight at Eurowings transfer counter B213 in the departure hall of the airport where you change planes.

… Berlin
If you change planes in Berlin, you will receive your boarding pass for the connecting flight at the Eurowings transfer counter in the departure hall of the airport where you change planes.

Important:
All regulations apply to Eurowings flights with an EW or 4U flight number, regardless of the operating airline. For our partner airlines' flights, which do not have an EW or 4U flight number, the conditions of the respective airline apply. These can be viewed on the airlines' own websites. These partner airlines currently include Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor, United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

Do I have to go through security again before taking a connecting flight?

If your Eurowings journey involves taking a connecting flight in Berlin or Hanover, you will have to go through security again.

If you are taking a connecting flight in Cologne or Stuttgart, you will only have to go through security again if you are arriving from a non-Schengen* state and/or a non-EU member state. The security checkpoint is located inside the gate areas in Cologne and Stuttgart.

Always follow the current regulations on hand luggage.

* For a list of Schengen states go to the website of the Federal Foreign Office.

Booking and booking changes

What are the luggage regulations for infants and children?

For children under 12 years, the same luggage regulations apply as for adults. This applies even if children will not be sitting in their own seats.

One of the following items may be carried and checked in as luggage per infant/child free of charge:

  • A pram
  • A pushchair
  • A booster seat
  • A carrycot

Larger items will be carried as oversize luggage. At some airports smaller, lighter pushchairs can be taken with you to the gate.

Booster seats

If your child is to sit on a booster seat in the cabin, this must first be examined at the check-in counter to ensure it is suitable for the flight. For this reason, web check-in is not available for passengers bringing a booster seat.

More information on bringing booster seats into the cabin can be found here.

More information on luggage regulations for adults can be found here.

Can I also book flights on my mobile phone?

  1. In our mobile view, click on "Book flights" and choose your preferred departure and destination airports. Also enter the travel dates and number of passengers. All available flights will then be displayed, and you can choose between our three fares: BASIC, SMART and BEST.

The process is even faster if you already have an account. Haven't saved your customer details yet? No problem: during the booking process you will be given the option of registering. The next time you book, you can take advantage of the many benefits an account has to offer.

Travelling with children

Can my child travel alone?

Children aged 12 or older may fly alone. Children under 12 may only fly accompanied by a responsible adult. Children between the age of five and eleven may also travel accompanied by a sibling aged sixteen years or older. The child's companion must be able to assist the child at all times in the case of any unusual event. If the responsible adult does not have parental authority, we must be provided with the following written permission from an adult with parental authority.

Please note that special entry and exit conditions apply in some countries.

Unaccompanied minor service

On direct domestic flights and direct flights from Germany to Zurich or Vienna Eurowings offers an unaccompanied minor service (UM service) for children aged from five up to and including 11. Our friendly staff will not only ensure the well-being of your child during the flight, but will also make sure that your child arrives safely in the destination airport. In addition, we provide children travelling alone with a savoury snack and still water (0.2 l) and one other drink on board, free of charge.

Booking

The UM service and the corresponding flight can be booked via the call centre or at a Eurowings airport counter, but unfortunately not online or via mobile phone. If your booking has an etix® ticket number, you can only book the UM service at the airport.

Charges

A charge will be applied per journey leg and per child. This must be paid with the booking payment.

Booster seats

If your child is to sit on a booster seat in the cabin, this must first be examined at the check-in counter to ensure it is suitable for the flight. For this reason, web check-in is not available for passengers bringing a booster seat.

More information on bringing booster seats into the cabin can be found here.

More information on luggage regulations for adults can be found here.

How do I book flights for children and infants?

Flights can be booked for infants and children under 12 years in the same way as for adults via the "Booking" area.

Click here to proceed to online booking.

Please note that children under 12 years must be accompanied on the plane by an adult on the same booking (same booking number). If this is not the case, please contact our call centre at least three days before departure.

Eurowings offers the following options for infant passengers (under two years):

  • Sitting in a booster seat in their own seat (this booking can be made via the call centre or at our airport counters, but not online or by mobile phone)
  • Secured with a loop belt on the lap of an adult.

You can find out more about travelling with infants here.

You can also book Eurowings flights for children and infants with one of our partner airlines or in a travel agency. For more information please contact the relevant airline or the travel agency.

What documents does my child require for the flight?

In addition to the booking number or etix® ticket number, all travellers including infants, children and adolescents require ID.

As of 26 June 2012, every child with German nationality, regardless of age, requires their own travel document to travel abroad. Joint passports for parents and children are no longer recognised. The new regulation also applies for travel within the EU and the Schengen area.

Children under 12

As described here, children under 12 are normally required to travel with a responsible adult. If a child travels with an adult who does not have parental authority, written permission from the parent or an adult with parental authority is required. If such permission is not presented, the child will not be allowed to fly with us.

The required declaration form can be downloaded here.

Special regulations also apply for booking flights for children under 12.

Further information on this topic can be found here.

Foreign nationals

For foreign nationals living in Germany, the regulations of their homeland and the entry regulations of the destination country apply.

Special entry and exit regulations

Special entry and exit regulations apply in certain countries, such as France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Croatia, Romania and Israel, for children travelling alone. Each passenger is responsible for ensuring they comply with these regulations. We therefore recommend that you find out the relevant requirements from the responsible authorities in good time to ensure you have all the correct documentation for the flight.

Can I book a flight award for an unaccompanied child (UM service)?

Unfortunately, flight awards may not be booked for unaccompanied children with Eurowings.

1 Only on Airbus fleet, with SMART fare (subject to availability).

Note
The options for seat selection listed above apply solely to Eurowings flights. For flights operated by one of our partner airlines, the terms of the relevant airline apply. Our current partner airlines are Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor, United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

etix® is an electronic ticket that replaces paper tickets. It has a 13-digit number in addition to your booking code. You receive this etix® ticket number under certain circumstances, for example if you book through the Lufthansa website or a travel agent. It is saved for you in the etix® database. When you present your etix® ticket number and a photo ID, you will receive your boarding pass.

Travelling with children

We can only transport children under the age of 12 at the time of travel if they travel with a responsible companion who has reached majority. Children and the accompanying adult must belong to the same booking (with the same booking number). If this is not the case, please contact our call centre no later than 3 days before departure.

In event that the accompanying adult is not a parent or legal guardian, we will need written permission from a parent or a legal guardian. Please use the form provided for this purpose. Without this written permission, we regret that we will have to refuse carriage.
On direct flights within Germany, childen ages 5 through 11 may travel with Eurowings without an accompanying adult (unaccompanied minors). Our child-friendly staff will care for your child and ensure that he or she reaches the destination airport safely.

Alternatively, we offer transport in a child safety seat in a separate seat. Bookings may only be made through the call centre or at one of our airport counters. Online booking is excluded.
