Data protection provisions Boomerang Club

We appreciate your membership in the Boomerang Club. In order for you to participate in our bonus programme, processing of personal data is required. In doing so, we comply with data protection regulations, specifically the EU General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) and the Federal Data Protection Act (“BDSG”).

In this Privacy Notice, we will explain what personal information we process in association with your participation in the Boomerang Club, and what rights you have over your personal information. The basic regulations for the Boomerang Club originate from the General Terms and Conditions for the Boomerang Club (“General Terms and Conditions”). This privacy notice supersedes the privacy information contained in the terms.

  • The operator and publisher of the Boomerang Club and data protection officer responsible for the processing of personal data is Eurowings Aviation GmbH (Waldst. 249, 51147, Cologne, 0180 6 320 320. Any reference to “we” or “us” in these data protection instructions refers in each case to the aforementioned company.

  • In compliance with data protection regulations, we process your personal data only if permitted by law or if you have given your consent. This also applies to the processing of personal data for advertising and marketing purposes.

    1. My Eurowings Account Data/Basic Data: If you create a My Eurowings account at www.eurowings.com and register at the same time for the Boomerang Club by select-ing the appropriate option, the data you provide in your My Eurowings account will be transmitted by us to Eurowings GmbH, the operator of the website. In accordance with the terms and conditions, we use this data to enable you to participate in the Boomer-ang Club, specifically by sending you your personal participant number. The data from your My Eurowings account and your subscriber number are referred to as “Master Data”. The legal basis for the processing of master data is Article 6, Section 1 (b) of GDPR.
    2. Programme Data: In addition to the master data, we collect information about the Boomerang Club Miles you have collected and redeemed (“Miles”). As per the terms and conditions, miles can be earned on flights operated by airline partners and by us-ing other partner services (e.g. banking services such as credit cards, hotel stays, rental cars). The information required for the mileage credit will be provided to us by the company that operates the flight or other partner service. Depending on the partner, different transaction data will be transmitted to us (details can be obtained from the respective partner company). We provide information about the redemption of miles to Eurowings GmbH or the company responsible for the redemption, to the extent nec-essary to settle the redemption. The legal basis for the processing of programme data is Article 6, Section 1 (b) of GDPR.
    3. Information via Email: When you sign up for our email newsletter, we will use your consent to process your email address, any information collected in your Boomerang Club account, and programme data to provide you with information about our services tailored to your interests, offers and promotions, and the services of Boomerang Club participating aviation and banking services (credit card) partner companies. Your per-sonal data will not be shared with third parties, and we process your data solely for the selection of individualized content and distribution of the newsletter within the scope of the consent you have given. The legal basis for this is Article 6, Section 1 (a) of GDPR.
    4. Statistical Evaluations: If necessary, we may evaluate your personal information in order to evaluate your preferences for the purposes of interest-based marketing, an in-dividualized approach, and the continuous optimization of our business processes. We do this in order to gain a better understanding of what our customers expect from us and to be able to provide you with personalized communications. In addition, these evaluations help us detect fraud, audit our records, and ensure security; we therefore perform this type of processing to safeguard our legitimate interests. The legal basis for this is Article 6, Section 1 (f) of GDPR.
    5. Further Legitimate Interests: To the extent necessary, we process your data beyond the above purposes for the protection of our legitimate interests or the interests of third parties; this is done on the basis of Article 6, Section 1 (f) of GDPR. Our legitimate in-terests include:
      1. the assertion of legal claims and the defence of legal disputes;
      2. the prevention and investigation of criminal offences; and
      3. the management and further development of our business activities, including risk management.
    6. Embedded videos: We have embedded our own videos on our Website, which are also available on our channel on the YouTube platform (an offering from YouTube LLC, 901 Cherry Avenue, San Bruno, CA 94066, U.S. – “YouTube”). The contents of the YouTube videos embedded on our Website are shown in a subsection of our Website, but are only started and played if you click actively on them. When you play an embedded YouTube video, a connection to the YouTube servers is established so that the video is played in your browser. YouTube videos are embedded on our Website in the privacy-enhanced mode provided by YouTube; according to YouTube, use of this mode means that no cookies are stored on your device. However, when you play a YouTube video, your IP address is transferred and so YouTube obtains information that you have visited our Website. According to YouTube, this information cannot be assigned to you if you are not logged on to YouTube or another Google service at the time a video is called. As soon as you start playing an embedded video by clicking on it, YouTube – in privacy-enhanced mode – only stores cookies on your device which do not contain any data that can identify you personally, unless you are currently logged on to a Google service. These cookies can be prevented by appropriate browser settings and extensions.     7. Participation in sweepstakes: If you participate in our sweepstakes, we will save your contact information (title, first name/surname, email address and, if applicable, Boomerang Club number) and winning code in order to carry out the contest and contact the winner. The legal basis for this is Article 6, Section 1 (b) of GDPR.
  • The provision of master and programme data is required to participate in the Boomerang Club. Information provided about our email communications is required for the distribution of our information. Wherever we collect data directly from you (e.g. via an online form), the required data are marked as mandatory; if you do not provide the mandatory information, we cannot allow you to use the respective offer.

    In addition, if we collect personal information from you, we will tell you at the time we collect it whether the provision of that information is required by law or is required to execute a contract. In doing so, we generally identify any information that is provided on a voluntary basis and not according to any of the above obligations or not required to execute a contract.

  • Your personal data is generally processed within our company. Depending on the type of personal information, only certain departments/organizational units have access to your personal information. These include, in particular, the specialist departments involved in the provision of our services and our IT department. A role and authorization concept limits access within our organization to those functions and to the extent required for the particular purpose of the processing.

    We may also transfer your personal information to third parties outside our company to the extent permitted by law. In particular, these external receivers may include the following:

    • in respect of master data and programme data, the partner companies of the Boomerang Club, but only insofar as this is necessary for the implementation of the Boomerang Club (specifically for the redemption of miles);
    • affiliated companies to which we transfer personal data for internal administrative purposes within the Lufthansa Group;
    • service providers engaged by us who provide services for us on an independent contractual basis that may also include the processing of personal data, as well as any subcontractors of our service providers who are involved with our consent;
    • non-public and public entities in cases where we are required by law to provide your personal data.
  • In connection with the Boomerang Club, we generally do not use automated decision-making (including profiling), as defined in Article 22 of GDPR. If we use such procedures in individual cases, we will inform you separately about this to the legally required extent.

  • In principle, the processing of your personal data takes place within the EU or the European Economic Area.

    In certain cases, information may be transmitted to recipients in so-called “third countries”. “Third countries” are countries outside of the European Union or the European Economic Area, for which it is not possible to assume a level of data protection comparable to that of the European Union.

    If the information provided includes personal data and we do not have a legal obligation of disclosure (such as Advance Passenger Information), we will ensure that the third country or the recipient in the third country has required a sufficient level of data protection. This may be the result, in particular, of a so-called “adequacy decision” by the European Commission, which establishes an adequate level of data protection for a given third country as a whole. Alternatively, we may also base the transfer of data on so-called “EU standard contractual clauses” agreed with a recipient or, in the case of US recipients, on compliance with the principles of the so-called “EU-US Privacy Shield”.   • In principle, we store your personal data as long as we have a legitimate interest in its storage, and we do not consider our importance to outweigh your interests in the non-continuation of the storage.

    Even without a legitimate interest, we can continue to store the data if we are legally obligated to do so (for example, to fulfil record-keeping obligations). We also delete your personal data without your involvement as soon as its retention is no longer necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was processed, or in cases where storing your data is otherwise legally inadmissible.

    In general:

    • your master data and programme data are deleted after termination of your participation in the Boomerang Club, no later than after expiration of statutory retention periods; and
    • any data processed in connection with the registration of a My Eurowings account is deleted in the process of deleting the customer account.

    Any personal data we need to keep in order to fulfil our retention obligations will be kept until the end of the respective retention obligation. Any personal data kept solely for the purpose of fulfilling retention requirements are generally blocked so that they can only be accessed if necessary with respect to the purpose of the retention obligation.

    1. Right to object, according to Article 21 of GDPR
      You have the right, at any time, to object to the processing of personal data concerning you pursuant to Article 6, Section 1 (e) or (f) of GDPR for reasons arising from your particular situation; this also applies to profiling based on these provisions. In the event of your objection, we will no longer process the personal data concerning you, unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for processing that outweigh your interests, rights, and freedoms, or if the processing is for the purpose of asserting, exercising, or defending legal claims.
      If we process the personal data relating to you for the purpose of direct marketing, you have the right to object at any time to the processing of your personal data for the purposes of such advertising; this also applies to profiling insofar as it is associated with such direct mail. If you object to the processing for purposes of direct marketing, the personal data related to you will no longer be processed for these purposes.
      Regardless of Directive 2002/58/EG, you have the option, in the context of the use of information society services, of exercising your right to object through automated procedures that use technical specifications.
    2. Revocation of Consent
      If you have given us consent (for example, in connection with information by email, you may revoke such consent at any time with future effect. In our email communications, we generally provide a corresponding link in every one of our newsletters. You can also contact us via other methods, e.g. by post, fax, or email using any of the contact methods listed on the first page of this Privacy Notice.
    3. Further Rights
      As the affected person, you have the right:
    • to information about what personal data has been collected and saved, according to Article 15 of GDPR;
    • to correction of incorrect or incomplete data, according to Article 16 of GDPR;
    • to the deletion of personal data, according to Article 17 of GDPR;
    • to the restriction of processing, according to Article 18 of GDPR, and
    • to data portability, according to Article 20 of GDPR

    To exercise these rights, you may contact us at any time, e.g. using one of the contact methods listed at the beginning of this privacy policy.
    If you have any questions about the processing of your data, you can also contact our data protection officer.
    You are also entitled to file a complaint with a competent data protection supervisory authority, according to Article 77 of GDPR.

We can only transport children under the age of 12 at the time of travel if they travel with a responsible companion who has reached majority. Children and the accompanying adult must belong to the same booking (with the same booking number). If this is not the case, please contact our call centre no later than 3 days before departure.

In event that the accompanying adult is not a parent or legal guardian, we will need written permission from a parent or a legal guardian. Please use the form provided for this purpose. Without this written permission, we regret that we will have to refuse carriage.
On direct flights within Germany, childen ages 5 through 11 may travel with Eurowings without an accompanying adult (unaccompanied minors). Our child-friendly staff will care for your child and ensure that he or she reaches the destination airport safely.

Infants under the age of 2 are not entitled to a seat. Instead, they are transported on the lap of an adult and secured with a seatbelt (loop belt).

Alternatively, we offer transport in a child safety seat in a separate seat. Bookings may only be made through the call centre or at one of our airport counters. Online booking is excluded.

etix® is an electronic ticket that replaces paper tickets. It has a 13-digit number in addition to your booking code. You receive this etix® ticket number under certain circumstances, for example if you book through the Lufthansa website or a travel agent. It is saved for you in the etix® database. When you present your etix® ticket number and a photo ID, you will receive your boarding pass.

When flying from, to or over certain countries* airlines are required by law to collect certain data through the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) and to forward it to the authorities of those countries prior to the flight.

The following information is required:

  • Title
  • First name and surname
  • Date and country of birth
  • Gender
  • Nationality
  • Passport information

Additional APIS information is required for entry into the USA:

  • Country of residency
  • Destination airport
  • Complete address of your destination (street, city, postal code, state/province, country) 

Passengers who book online can enter this information immediately after completing their booking. Any missing information can be added later by going to 'My Eurowings'.

To avoid unnecessary delays at the check-in counter, we recommend that you submit the APIS information as early as possible using our online form.
