  • Children age 12 or older may fly alone. Children under 12 may only fly accompanied by a responsible adult.     Unaccompanied minor service

    On direct domestic flights and direct flights from Germany to Zurich or Vienna Eurowings offers an unaccompanied minor service (UM service) for children ages 5 up to and including 11. Our friendly staff will not only ensure the well-being of your child during the flight, but will also make sure that your child arrives safely in the destination airport.

    The UM service and the corresponding flight can be booked through the call center or at a Eurowings airport counter, but unfortunately not online or by mobile phone. If your booking has an etix® ticket number, you can only book the UM service at the airport.

    Charges

    A fee will be charged per leg of travel and per child. This must be paid with the booking payment.

    What are the baggage regulations for infants/children?

    Note:

  • Children under 12 years of age are subject to the same baggage requirements as adults. They apply even if children will not be sitting in their own seats.

    One of the following items may be carried and checked as baggage free of charge for each infant/child:

    • Baby buggy
    • Stroller
    • Child safety seat
    • Travel bassinet

    It is not possible to take prams or buggies on board the aircraft. This also applies to “pocket buggies” in a hand-luggage format.

    Child safety seats

    If your child will sit in a child safety seat in the cabin, it must first be inspected at the check-in counter to ensure it is suitable for the flight. For this reason, Web check-in is not available for passengers bringing a child safety seat.

  • All kids up to 2 years of age are entitled for free of charge airport check-in regardless of the fare they purchased.

    All kids aged between 2 and 11 flying on Eurowings flights and whose flights have been purchased up to 31st March 2020 are also entitled to free of charge airport check-in regardless of the fare they purchased.

    All kids aged between 2 and 11 flying on Eurowings flights and whose flights have been purchased post 1st April 2020 might not have airport check-in included within their fare benefits.

    As a general rule, children holding BASIC bookings do not have this option included as their fare entitlement, while children holding any other fare have the option to check-in at the airport free of charge. For more details on fare entitlements please visit the following page. Do note that some categories of passengers (such as children travelling alone) do have the option to check-in at airport counter included free of charge regardless of the purchased fare (courtesy of Eurowings).   • In addition to the booking number or etix® ticket number, all travellers including infants, children and adolescents require ID.

    As of 26 June 2012, every child with German nationality, regardless of age, requires their own travel document to travel abroad. Joint passports for parents and children are no longer recognised. The new regulation also applies for travel within the EU and the Schengen area.

    Children under 12

    As described here, children under 12 are normally required to travel with a responsible adult. If a child travels with an adult who does not have parental authority, written permission from the parent or an adult with parental authority is required. If such permission is not presented, the child will not be allowed to fly with us.

    Foreign nationals

    For foreign nationals living in Germany, the regulations of their homeland and the entry regulations of the destination country apply.

    Special entry and exit regulations

    Special entry and exit regulations apply in certain countries, such as France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Croatia, Romania and Israel, for children travelling alone. Each passenger is responsible for ensuring they comply with these regulations. We therefore recommend that you find out the relevant requirements from the responsible authorities in good time to ensure you have all the correct documentation for the flight.

    Can child safety seats be used on board the plane at Eurowings?

    Children may use a booster seat, provided you have booked a separate seat for your child (bookings for children under the age of two can only be made via the call centre or at our airport counter).

    You can take your own booster seat on board. Neither Eurowings nor its partner airlines provide booster seats.

    Please note that you must check in at the airport counter if you intend to use a booster seat in the cabin. As a representative at the check-in counter will make sure the booster seat is suitable for your flight, online check-in and self-service check-in are not possible.

     

    If you would like to bring your own car seat or child restraint system on board, please make sure:

    • you register the child restraint device in time via our call centre, airport service counter or use our contact form,
    • you book a suitable seat in advance (not in the first row, not at the emergency exit row or in a row in front of or directly behind the emergency exit),
    • you are using an approved car seat/child restraint device (see below),
    • the device is in perfect working order,
    • you are familiar with using the device in an aircraft,
    • you will attach the device to the seat, and
    • you agree to check in the car seat or child restraint device as checked baggage if it doesn't appear in the list of approved devices below, if it's not in an acceptable working order or cannot be attached to the passenger seat.

    If a seat does not comply with requirements, our employees are authorised to prevent its use and to stow the seat in a separate location. In such cases, infants will be secured with a loop belt on the adult's lap. We regret that it will not be possible to refund the price paid for the separate seat.

    • the device is in perfect working order,
    • you are familiar with using the device in an aircraft,
    • you will attach the device to the seat, and
    • you agree to check in the car seat or child restraint device as checked baggage if it doesn't appear in the list of approved devices below, if it's not in an acceptable working order or cannot be attached to the passenger seat.

    If a seat does not comply with requirements, our employees are authorised to prevent its use and to stow the seat in a separate location. In such cases, infants will be secured with a loop belt on the adult's lap. We regret that it will not be possible to refund the price paid for the separate seat.

    How do I book Eurowings flights for children and infants?

    Flights can be booked for infants and children under 12 years in the same way as for adults, by going to the "Booking" area.

    Eurowings offers the following options for infant passengers (under two years old) who are:

    • Sitting in a booster seat in their own seat (this booking can be made through the call center or at our airport counters, but not online or by mobile phone)
    • Secured with a loop belt on the lap of an adult.

etix® is an electronic ticketing service that replaces paper tickets. It has a 13-digit number in addition to your booking code. You receive this etix® ticket number under certain circumstances, for example if you book your flight on the Lufthansa website or through a travel agent. It is saved for you in the etix® database. When you present your etix® ticket number and a photo ID, you will receive your boarding pass.

When flying from, to or over certain countries*, airlines are required by law to collect certain data through the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) and to forward it to the authorities of those countries before the flight begins.

The following information is required:

  • Title
  • First and last name
  • Date and country of birth
  • Gender
  • Nationality
  • Passport information

Additional APIS information is required for entry into the United States:

  • Country of residence
  • Destination airport
  • Complete address of your destination (street, city, postal code, state/province, country) 

Passengers who book online can enter this information immediately after completing their booking. Any missing information can be added later by going to 'myEurowings'.

To avoid unnecessary delays at the check-in counter, we recommend that you submit the APIS information as early as possible using our online form.

Please note that you may not be permitted to travel if the information is not complete.
