The most frequently asked questions

  • Yes, for a fee you can reserve a seat when you book your flight with Eurowings.

    You can also reserve a seat later – up to before web check-in closes before departure.

    SMART fare

    The SMART fare includes free reservation of your preferred seat. A seat with more legroom can also be booked for €4 - 6 (depending on the route).

    BEST fare

    The BEST fare lets you reserve a seat in the designated BEST section free of charge on Eurowings long-haul routes.

    BIZclass fare

    Seat reservation is available free of charge in rows 1–3 for the entire Airbus fleet in the BIZclass fare. It also includes a free adjacent seat for more space. Passengers can also experience the enjoyment of exclusive premium section seating with a nearly two-meter-long horizontal bed on long-haul routes.

    Please note that seats in rows with emergency exits are subject to special regulations.

    Important:

    All regulations apply to Eurowings flights with an EW flight number, regardless of the operating airline. The seat reservation option (with extra legroom) applies exclusively to selected flights and depends on the route and availability. This offer may not be available on some of the following aircraft: A319, A320, B737, B738, Q400, E190.

    For our partner airlines' flights, which do not have an EW flight number, the conditions of the respective airline apply and can be viewed on the airlines' own websites. These partner airlines currently include Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor, United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

  • It's easy to book an available award flight at the BASIC, SMART or BEST fare level fare level – just go online. To do this, click on "Redeem" and log in with your Boomerang Club details. You can then select and book the flight you want using the "Book award flight" function.

    Your award flight must be booked no later than two days before the desired departure date and is subject to availability. You can also transfer your award flight to someone else or add bookings for companions.

    Please note that Boomerang Club miles can only be redeemed for Eurowings award flights.

  • You can upgrade your fare up to 72 hours before departure by phone or at one of our counters. There will be no processing charge if you use your phone.

    A fare downgrade is not possible.

  • Tailored to your specific needs – our SMART fare includes certain additional services and lets you add others in yourself.

    The SMART fare is our standard fare. Along with the advantages of the BASIC fare, it also includes one checked bag, preferred seating and in-flight dining.

  • You will be charged for each item of luggage that you check in. If you check in more than one bag weighing 23 kg, an additional fixed charge for excess luggage applies.

    If you book your first piece of luggage up to 23 kg on the website, a surcharge of €9 - 30 per route and passenger (the exact amount depends on the route) will apply. This amount is increased to €18 - 60 (the exact amount depends on the route) for bookings at the airport counter. If you check in more than one bag weighing 23 kg, an additional charge will apply.

    Luggage can be registered at the time of booking the flight or at a later date.

    SMART fare

    Passengers who have booked the SMART fare can check in one item of luggage weighing 23 kg (no special or excess luggage) at no extra charge.

    BEST fare

    Passengers who have booked the BEST fare can check in two items of luggage weighing 23 kg (no special or excess luggage) at no extra charge.

    BIZclass fare

    Passengers who have booked the BIZclass fare can check in two items of luggage weighing 32 kg (no special or excess luggage) at no extra charge.

    Excess luggage

    Excess luggage can either be registered online or via telephone at the time of booking or added at a later date via the "My flight" area. Excess luggage can also be added via our mobile services in the "Add services" area. If this is not done, a higher fixed charge will apply when checking in excess luggage at the airport.

    Special luggage

    Special luggage includes sports equipment, pushchairs and cots and is subject to special terms. Please label each item of luggage to be checked in with your name or another personal mark.

    Note:

    Special terms apply for passengers travelling with sports equipment and special luggage.
    If you don't have a booking number but instead have an etix® ticket number, or if you have booked a Eurowings flight with one of our partner airlines or in a travel agency, then luggage regulations may vary. Please contact the relevant airline or your travel agency.

  • Yes, various food and drink options can be purchased at low prices on Eurowings flights. Fresh sandwiches, tasty snacks, hot and cold drinks – the choice is yours!

    SMART fare

    If you have booked the SMART fare or your booking has an etix® ticket number, you will receive a sweet or savory snack, still water (0.2 L) and an additional non-alcoholic beverage (0.15 L of Sprite, cola or cola light, or 0.2 L of juice, mineral water, coffee or tea) free of charge

    BEST fare

    The BEST fare allows you to enjoy our BEST-Meals (one warm and one cold) including fresh products and specials. You can choose a drink during our on-board service.

    BIZclass fare

    If you have booked a flight an a Short and medium-haul route with a BIZclass fare, enjoy our special meal and service at your place. Your favourite snack & drink come at no extra charge. On long haul flights you can make your choice from the menu between two starters and a vegetarian, fish or meat main course. A dessert or cheese plate round off your moment of culinary pleasure on board.

    We are unfortunately unable to accommodate any special dietary requirements (such as gluten-free or lactose-free options) on board our flights.

  • Yes, you can edit your booking and add the following extra services up to before web check-in closes before departure, whether you do it online, on your mobile phone, by phone or at one of our airport counters:

    • Regular, excess and special baggage (golfing equipment, bicycles and sports gear such as surfboards, snowboards, bodyboards, diving gear, and sail and hang gliders)
    • Transport of pets
    • Seat reservations
    • Boarding and deplaning assistance for hearing or visually impaired passengers and travelers with restricted mobility
    • Boarding with a wheelchair
    • Assistance for passengers with restricted mobility from check-in to the aircraft, including assistance with steps to aircraft
    • Train connections to airport

    Please be aware that space restrictions prevent us from transporting unlimited amounts of special baggage. Once our space is used up, you will no longer be able to select this service.

    Fare upgrade

    Up to 72 hours before departure, you can still upgrade your fare by phone or at our counters. There will be no processing charge if you do it by phone.

  • HON Circle miles are crucial to achieving HON Circle member status. In order to become a HON Circle member you must collect 600,000 HON Circle miles over the course of two consecutive calendar years.

    You can earn these special status miles on Eurowings flights at the BIZclass fare level. At all other fare levels you will receive regular status and award miles.

  • If you have opted for a SMART, BEST or BIZclass fare, you can add the Flex option during the booking process. It can be chosen separately for outgoing and return flights.

    Changing bookings

    Flights with the Flex option can be changed to another travel date at no extra cost up to before web check-in closes before departure – provided the same passenger boards the same flight on the same route within our published flight schedule.

    Cancellations

    Can't make your flight? The Flex option lets you cancel your flight at no extra cost up to 40 minutes before departure – online, on your mobile phone, by telephone or in person at the airport counter.

    Even after the flight departs, it is still possible to change or cancel it with the Flex option. However, this must be done by telephone or in person at the airport counter on the same day as the originally scheduled travel date. If the flight is changed or cancelled after it has already departed, we must unfortunately charge a flat fee.

    Other Germanwings bookings cannot be cancelled due to their low fares.

  • Looking for a fare that lets you pay for just the services you really want?

    The BASIC fare is our budget fare. It includes only the flight. Luggage and many other additional services can be added to your booking as needed. Our Wings Bistro offers you dining pleasure above the clouds at affordable prices.

  • The executive bonus is a 25% mileage bonus that you receive if you are a Frequent Traveller, Senator or HON Circle member.

We can only transport children under the age of 12 on the date of travel if they travel with a responsible adult companion. Children and the accompanying adult must be on the same booking (with the same booking number). If this is not the case, please contact our call center no later than 3 days before departure.

In the event that the accompanying adult is not a parent or legal guardian, we will need written permission from a parent or a legal guardian. Please use the form provided for this purpose. Without this written permission, we regret that we will have to refuse to transport the child. On direct flights within Germany, children ages 5 through 11 may travel on Eurowings without an accompanying adult (unaccompanied minors). Our child-friendly staff will care for your child and ensure that he or she reaches the destination airport safely.

Infants and toddlers under the age of 2 are not entitled to a seat. Instead, they are transported on the lap of an adult and secured with a seatbelt (loop belt).

Alternatively, we offer transport in a child safety seat in a separate seat. Bookings may only be made through the call center or at one of our airport counters. Online booking is not an option.

etix® is an electronic ticketing service that replaces paper tickets. It has a 13-digit number in addition to your booking code. You receive this etix® ticket number under certain circumstances, for example if you book your flight on the Lufthansa website or through a travel agent. It is saved for you in the etix® database. When you present your etix® ticket number and a photo ID, you will receive your boarding pass.

When flying from, to or over certain countries*, airlines are required by law to collect certain data through the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) and to forward it to the authorities of those countries before the flight begins.

The following information is required:

  • Title
  • First and last name
  • Date and country of birth
  • Gender
  • Nationality
  • Passport information

Additional APIS information is required for entry into the United States:

  • Country of residence
  • Destination airport
  • Complete address of your destination (street, city, postal code, state/province, country) 

Passengers who book online can enter this information immediately after completing their booking. Any missing information can be added later by going to 'My Eurowings'.

To avoid unnecessary delays at the check-in counter, we recommend that you submit the APIS information as early as possible using our online form.

Please note that you may not be permitted to travel if the information is not complete.
