Terms and Conditions of Participation in Boomerang Club

Valid from July 1, 2016

The Boomerang Club bonus program ("Boomerang Club") rewards your loyalty as a customer. The operator and issuer of the Boomerang Club is Eurowings Aviation GmbH, Von-Gablenz-Str. 2-6, 50679 Cologne ("Eurowings Aviation").

Earning and redeeming miles and participation in Boomerang Club are all subject to the following rules, which supplement the General Conditions of Carriage of Eurowings GmbH ("Eurowings"):

  • 1.1. Entitlement to participation

    Only individual, natural persons more than two years of age and domiciled in a country where Boomerang Club is offered shall be entitled to participate.

    A domicile as defined as the principal geographical location of residence (such as the primary domicile) of the participant, which the participant must document for Eurowings Aviation upon request.

    1.2. Start of participation

    After a user profile is created on the www.eurowings.com website operated by Eurowings GmbH and Eurowings receives an application to join Boomerang Club, Eurowings Aviation will assign a personal participant number and email this number to the applicant. Participation starts when the applicant receives this email. Only one Boomerang Club account may be opened per person. There is no legal right to be approved for participation in Boomerang Club. Eurowings Aviation may refuse to approve participation in the Boomerang Club without giving a reason.

    1.3. Miles & More

    Eurowings Aviation is a partner company of the Miles & More frequent flyer program. As a result, Eurowings customers also have the option of earning Miles & More miles instead of Boomerang Club miles, or redeeming them for Eurowings services. The operator and issuer of the Miles & More bonus program is Miles & More GmbH. This means that earning and redeeming Miles & More miles is subject exclusively to the Miles & More Terms and Conditions of Participation, which are available online at miles-and-more.com.

  • 2.1. General

    Miles that post to the participant's account are used as the basis for calculation for Boomerang Club. The miles can only be used for purposes that are expressly stated in the Terms and Conditions of Participation or other customer information. Bonus points and miles from other programs cannot be converted into Boomerang Club miles.

    The miles and the Boomerang Club account are non-transferable and cannot be converted into cash or paid out as cash. Miles can only be earned for services to be rendered for the participant him/herself.

    2.2. Account balance

    Participants can check their current Boomerang Club account balance at eurowings.com. In addition to the current account balance, the participant's account activity to date is also shown there. The current account balance will only be provided as part of the regularly published newsletter. Additional updates on current account balances are expressly not provided by mail, email, fax, or telephone.

    2.3. Earning miles

    It is possible to earn miles from the very first day of participation. This does not include any flights or services booked with partners or used before approval by Eurowings Aviation was received.

    The number of credited miles is determined according to the program terms applicable on the date on which a service was used. Miles will only be credited for services used by the participant. Eurowings Aviation also makes it possible for Boomerang Club participants to earn miles with certain partner companies. Eurowings Aviation has no influence on companies of this type. Eurowings Aviation is therefore not responsible for the availability of partner company services (such as flights, overnight hotel stays, and rental cars) and for proper performance of the contract. The general terms and conditions of the partner company in question will apply.

    2.3.1. Flights with airline partners

    For every fully paid-for flight (individual route) with Boomerang Club airline partners, the participant's account shall be credited with miles, subject to paragraphs 2.3.4 and 2.3.5. Taking into consideration the flight date, the number of miles awarded for each individual route shall be published when the booking is made; this information shall be updated daily. The standard rate of miles granted shall be 10 miles per full Euro sold.

    2.3.2 Partner services

    Subject to paragraphs 2.3.4 and 2.3.5, the participant's account will be credited with miles for every paid stay with a hotel partner; the rate credited will be the rate that applies when the accommodation agreement is made. These miles will be credited once the partner company has provided notification of the partner company services used by the participant. Multiple, consecutive overnight stays will be considered to be "one stay". This will likewise apply if a participant checks back in to the same hotel within one day of checking out of that hotel.
    Subject to paragraphs 2.3.4 and 2.3.5, the participant's account will be credited with miles for every paid car rental with a car rental partner; the rate credited will be the rate that applies when the rental agreement is signed. These miles will be credited once the partner company has provided notification of the partner company services used by the participant. Notification of the number of miles credited will be provided separately. A "rental" is the rental of a vehicle for at least one day or the rental of different vehicles on directly consecutive days at one or several branch offices of a rental car partner at the same location.

    Furthermore, miles will also be credited for using services provided by additional partner companies that are published at eurowings.com. Notification of the number of miles credited will be provided separately.

    2.3.3 Eurowings credit cards with mileage-earning capacity

    When using the credit cards issued by Barclaycard and jointly marketed with Eurowings Aviation ("Eurowings credit cards"), the credit card holder earns miles that are credited to his or her Boomerang Club account by Eurowings Aviation for certain transactions with these credit cards. The number of miles that the credit card holder obtains is stated in the price list for the credit cards in question. In particular, no miles will be credited to the Boomerang Club account for the following transactions: annual subscriptions, transfers to the benefit of and debited against the card account, cash withdrawals, transactions that are classified as cash transactions (e.g. casino/betting transactions), interest and fees, as well as transactions that are reversed due to cancellation, rescission, revocation or similar. This will also apply for transactions effected when Barclaycard has prohibited the credit card holder from using the credit cards or the credit card holder is entirely or partially in default with more than one installment. The welcome bonus will not be credited if the card holder has already held a Eurowings credit card in the last 12 months before opening the card account. A precise list of the transactions for which no miles are credited to the Boomerang Club account may be viewed in Barclaycard's price list.

    2.3.4 Exclusion of miles

    No mileage will be credited for such services as industry discount fares (ID, IP, AD, GE, UD, DG, PEPs etc.), group bookings (JR), reward services and free flights. Starting May 15, 2016 (booking date), miles will also be credited for our BASIC fare long-haul flights.

    2.3.5 Credit procedure

    Miles are only automatically credited to the participant account if the personal participant number is stated when the service for which miles can be earned is booked. For flight services supplied by Eurowings (including companies operating on behalf of Eurowings), the number may be added to the booking subsequently. To do this, the participant must again access his booking at eurowings.com prior to the flight and enter the Boomerang Club number.

    Miles for services from airline partners are generally credited to the participant's account within 48 hours of using the service (flight date). Miles for services from partner companies are generally credited within 10 working days of the end of the month in which the service was used.

    Miles that are not automatically recorded for services from airline partners can be credited to the participant's account within 6 months of using the service. These miles can be subsequently entered either online at eurowings.com or through the call center. In such cases, Eurowings Aviation requires the complete booking code for the affected bookings and reserves the right to additionally request from the participant the original booking confirmation and boarding pass stub. The crediting process may take up to 3 weeks.

    Miles for services from partner companies that are not automatically collected must be requested subsequently from the partner companies. Miles for these services are only credited subsequent to notification from the partner company regarding the partner company services used. Eurowings Aviation is not responsible for proper contractual performance by the partner company. No credit shall be effected for services that are: not paid for in full; for which there was a failure to board; or that were reimbursed or used in an illegal manner.

    2.4. Redeeming miles

    2.4.1 General

    Each participant may redeem his/her miles for reward flights with Eurowings once the participant's Boomerang Club account contains sufficient credit. The availability of reward flights pursuant to paragraph 2.4.3. is required for this. Offers concerning reward flights and the respective number of miles required can be viewed at eurowings.com. The respective number of miles required shall be deducted from the participant's account when the reward flight is booked.

    2.4.2 Booking reward flights

    Reward flights can be booked online with the BASIC, SMART or BEST product at eurowings.com or using the Boomerang Hotline.

    The required number of Boomerang Club miles for reward flights is provided in the reward flight table at eurowings.com.

    Generally, a reward flight must be booked at least 2 days prior to the selected flight date. Reward flights for third parties and accompanying persons can also be added to bookings. The availability of reward flights pursuant to paragraph 2.4.3. is required for this.

    2.4.3 Availability of reward flights

    The availability of reward flights may vary greatly depending on the date, season and destination. Reward flights may not be available at certain times. 

    There is no right to book a reward flight on a certain flight on a certain date.

    2.4.4 Fees, surcharges and service charges for reward flights

    All incidental flight costs such as fees (e.g. airport taxes and security fees), surcharges (e.g. insurance surcharges) and service charges (e.g. rebooking fees) associated with the award or use of a reward flight must be borne by the participant. Information concerning the amount of fees, surcharges and potentially accruing service charges is available to participants at eurowings.com.

    Eurowings Aviation shall not undertake any flat-rate taxation of the benefits granted in accordance with para. 37 a German Income Tax Act [Einkommensteuergesetz, EStG]. The Boomerang Club member must state the benefits granted as non-monetary bonuses as defined by para. 3 no. 38 EStG within his/her personal income tax return.

    2.4.5 Rebooking reward flights

    Reward flights can be rebooked at eurowings.com or using the Boomerang Hotline. It is possible to rebook to a different time stated in the flight schedule provided that there are reward flights available on the selected new flight. It is not possible to make changes to the booked flight route. The amounts of fees for rebooking, name changes, etc. are provided in the fee table at eurowings.com. If it is not possible to rebook to another reward flight, the reward flight shall lapse. Reward flights for third parties and accompanying persons can also be added to bookings. It is also possible to subsequently transfer the ticket to another person using the Boomerang Hotline. Name changes can be registered by stating the booking code and must be registered before web check-in closes prior to departure. If multiple flight routes are booked in one booking, it must be noted that a passenger change is only possible before web check-in closes prior to the scheduled departure time for the first (original) flight route.

    2.5. Expiration of miles

    If miles are not redeemed in return for a reward within 24 months of being credited to the Boomerang Club account, they lapse upon the expiry of the twenty-fourth month. The lapsed miles shall be automatically deleted from the participant’s Boomerang Club account. Reference is made to the date and scope of any expiration of miles when the Boomerang Club account is accessed in the user profile at www.eurowings.com or in the regular newsletter if the participant has subscribed to it.

    Miles belonging to holders of Eurowings credit cards remain valid until automatic mile expiration takes effect due to the cancellation of the Eurowings credit cards; with respect to the miles belonging to holders of Eurowings credit cards, Section 3.1 also applies beyond participation in the Boomerang Club in the event of the contractual relationship being terminated.

  • 3.1. Cancellation

    Both parties may cancel the contractual participation relationship in writing at any time; a notice period of two weeks applies. The Terms and Conditions of Participation shall continue to apply subsequent to cancellation, for the purpose of processing participation. The participant is no longer authorised to earn miles subsequent to the termination of participation. 

    Miles available in the account at the time of participation termination may be used to redeem reward services within 12 months of the date that participation is terminated, provided that no other expiration occurs in accordance with Section 2.5.

    In the event of extraordinary termination on the part of the operator, the miles present on the account at the time of participation being terminated can be used within a period of 6 months from the day that participation is ended, to redeem reward services, provided that no other expiration occurs in accordance with Section 2.5.

    Eurowings Aviation shall close the participant's account after the expiry of the time periods specified above. Miles still available in the account on this date shall expire.

    3.2. Programme termination

    Eurowings Aviation reserves the right to terminate the Boomerang Club or replace it with another programme or to transfer it into a different programme operated by a third party at any time. The provisions for termination on the part of Eurowings Aviation pursuant to paragraph 3.1. shall apply mutatis mutandis in these instances. In the case of the programme being transferred into a third-party's programme, the member shall be granted a right to object pursuant to statutory requirements.

  • 4.1. Liability

    In the event of intentional acts and gross negligence and in the event of injury to life, body or health, Eurowings Aviation is liable without limitation for losses that participants experience in connection with their participation and that are caused by Eurowings Aviation or its vicarious agents. For simple negligence in violating a material contractual obligation, liability for material and financial losses is limited to a damage amount that is foreseeable and typically occurring. A material contractual obligation is an obligation that is required for the proper performance of the contract, and upon compliance with which the participant may normally rely. Any further liability for compensatory damages is ruled out, with the exception of claims under the Product Liability Act.

    4.2. Data protection

    4.2.1. When setting up a user profile during registration, Eurowings Aviation as the operator of eurowings.com collects, processes and uses personal data (e.g. your surname, first name, and postal and email address). Further information on how your personal data is handled on the website is available in our general data protection information that is available under “Data protection” on the website.

    4.2.2. Eurowings Aviation, as the operator and issuer of the Boomerang Club, also (alongside Eurowings GmbH as the operator of the website) uses the data collected during the registration of a user profile that has been set up and the personal data recorded in this process. It uses and process this data only for purposes that serve the implementation of the programme. Your data shall only be transmitted to third parties if this is necessary for fulfilling our obligations towards you in connection with the Boomerang Club. This involves, e.g. data that our partners and service providers require for crediting miles or processing customer inquiries, or within the scope of programme-related communication. The data shall only be used for this purpose; the data shall not be stored by third parties or used for marketing purposes.

    4.2.3. Indicating your preferences is voluntary within the context of registration for the Boomerang Club. It is possible to register without providing this data. The statements of preference will only be used internally and on an anonymised basis for statistical purposes to improve our services in the course of further processing. The data will not be transmitted to a third party.

    4.2.4. Beyond operating the programme, we will only use your personal data if you have stated your express consent to this at the time of registration for the Boomerang Club. In this case you can receive information concerning interesting campaigns and offers via post, email or telephone.

    4.2.5. You may revoke your consent to the further use of your data at any time, with immediate effect. Please submit your revocation in writing to Eurowings Aviation GmbH, Data Protection Department, Waldstraße 249, 51147 Cologne, Germany.

    4.3. Changes to the programme or Terms and Conditions of Participation

    Eurowings Aviation reserves the right to amend of supplement the Terms and Conditions of Participation, rewards, reward tiers or other processes described in the programme documents for the Boomerang Club, provided that the participant is not thereby disadvantaged in breach of good faith. Compensatory damage claims asserted by participants against the operators due to country-specific amendments required by law are excluded.
    Written notification shall be provided for any amendments and supplements to these Terms and Conditions of Participation. These amendments and supplements shall be deemed to be accepted if a participant does not submit his/her objection in writing within two months of notification. Reference will be specifically made to this implication in the notification. If the participant objects to the change in the programme, his/her participant may be terminated pursuant to paragraph 3.1 of the Terms and Conditions of Participation by means of ordinary termination.

    4.4. Law, place of jurisdiction

    German law shall apply exclusively. The place of jurisdiction for traders shall be Cologne. The same applies if the participant does not have any place of general jurisdiction in Germany and no residence within the European Economic Area (EEA). If the participant is a consumer with a residence outside Germany but within the EEA, the participant may assert claims in Cologne, located in the Federal Republic of Germany, or in a competent court in the country in which the participant has his/her residence. Furthermore, claims may also be judicially pursued against a participant at his/her place of general jurisdiction or at any additional location in which statutory jurisdiction exists.

  • If you would like to cancel your Boomerang Club membership, we will need a written notice of termination from you that includes your membership number. Please mail your notice of termination to:

    From the date of the cancellation onward, you will no longer be entitled to collect miles. If you still have valid mileage in your account, you will have six months from the date of cancellation to redeem it for awards. Naturally, membership conditions still apply during this period.

    Once these six months are up, we will close your account. Any miles remaining in the account at that time will no longer be valid.

  • Only registered Boomerang Club members can earn miles. It's easy to sign up online – just click on Become a member.

    As a general rule, miles can only be earned for flights that members themselves have taken and that were booked after signing up. No miles are earned on award flights.

  • You have various options for signing up with Miles & More. The simplest of these is to register online. To online registration

    At the end of the online registration process, you can print your temporary Miles & More card and immediately begin collecting miles. The brochures displayed contain a provisional card that you can fill in yourself so that you can start straight away.

    You will also find registration brochures at all Lufthansa and SWISS sales offices, in airports, on board Lufthansa flights and at travel agencies with LH representation.

  • In order to collect miles as a member, enter your membership number every time you book a flight. The appropriate number of miles will then be credited automatically to your personal mileage account after you board the flight. If you do not board a booked flight, you will not receive any miles for it.

    As a registered Boomerang Club member, you also have other opportunities to collect miles. You will receive miles for any paid stay in a partner hotel or car hire from a car hire partner when you indicate your membership number. As a general rule, members may only collect miles for services that they have used themselves.

Children and the accompanying adult must be on the same booking (with the same booking number). If this is not the case, please contact our call center no later than 3 days before departure.

Infants and toddlers under the age of 2 are not entitled to a seat. Instead, they are transported on the lap of an adult and secured with a seatbelt (loop belt).

Alternatively, we offer transport in a child safety seat in a separate seat. Bookings may only be made through the call center or at one of our airport counters. Online booking is not an option.

etix® is an electronic ticketing service that replaces paper tickets. It has a 13-digit number in addition to your booking code. You receive this etix® ticket number under certain circumstances, for example if you book your flight on the Lufthansa website or through a travel agent. It is saved for you in the etix® database. When flying from, to or over certain countries*, airlines are required by law to collect certain data through the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) and to forward it to the authorities of those countries before the flight begins.

The following information is required:

  • Title
  • First and last name
  • Date and country of birth
  • Gender
  • Nationality
  • Passport information

Additional APIS information is required for entry into the United States:

  • Country of residence
  • Destination airport
  • Complete address of your destination (street, city, postal code, state/province, country) 

Passengers who book online can enter this information immediately after completing their booking. Any missing information can be added later by going to 'My Eurowings'.
