ETA information to travel the UK

London/Cologne 09/10/2024 3:52 PM

From 27 November 2024, additional countries will be eligible to apply for a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). Travellers from these countries will need a valid ETA to enter the UK from 8 January 2025 onwards.

An ETA must be applied for before travelling. A processing fee applies, and applicants will usually receive a decision within a reasonable timeframe. Once approved, the ETA is electronically linked to the traveller’s passport, so no physical documents or paper visas are required.

Travellers may still begin their journey if a decision on their ETA has not been made by the time of departure. However, we strongly recommend applying as early as possible.

Please note that dual citizens, including those holding a passport from another eligible country, are not exempt and must also obtain an ETA.

Due to these updated UK entry requirements, please check in advance whether you need an ETA. You can find full details on the official ETA information page.
If you hold a legal status registered with the UK, please also ensure that your UKVI account / eVisa is up to date and linked to your current passport.
