This page gives you relevant information about the check-in options that we offer and check-in times that you should bear in mind for your departure airport. You can also find the following information on this page:

General advice

Be sure to schedule enough time for check-in and security checks in order to avoid needless pressure. For this reason we recommend the following:

  • Schedule an additional 30 minutes between check-in and boarding, especially at peak flying times (for example, at the start of holiday seasons) and if you are checking special luggage or receiving special flight services 
  • Pay attention to the monitor messages and airport announcements – they tell you where check-in counters are located and may have information about changes.

Airport Check-In Service

All passengers who purchased their flights up to 17st March 2020 are entitled to free of charge airport check-in service. However passengers flying on Eurowings flights who purchase their tickets post 17th March 2020 might not have airport check-in service included free of charge within their fare benefits.

As a general rule, passengers holding BASIC bookings do not have this service included as their fare benefit, while passengers holding any other fare than BASIC have the option to check-in at the airport free of charge. For more details on fare entitlements please visit the following page.

Some categories of passengers have the option to check-in at airport counter without any additional fees regardless of the purchased fare (courtesy of Eurowings). Those are:

  • Passengers flying on Eurowings long haul flights
  • Passengers booked in Eurowings SMART fare, Dynamic Flex SMART fare, BEST fare, Dynamic Flex BEST fare, BIZclass fare fare, Dynamic Flex BIZclass fare or Fix Flex Nego fare
  • Babies up to 2 years of age (infants) – with or without a seat
  • Special categories of passengers (unaccompanied minors, medical and disabled passengers, deportees and inadmissible passengers)
  • Passengers holding one of the following special services (service animal, emotional support animal) or transporting one of the following (pet in cabin, weapons and ammunition)
  • Selected Frequent Flyers (SEN, HON and FTL members)
  • Passengers checking-in / collecting their boarding passes at Eurowings transfer desks
  • Passengers who are already checked-in (Web/Mobile/CUSS) and are queuing for baggage drop off
  • Passengers who are already checked-in (Web/Mobile/CUSS) and are queuing to get their boarding passes re-printed

All passengers who do not have airport check-in service included as a free of charge option within their fare entitlements and who do not perform online check-in (or self check-in at one of our self service machines, where available) might incur a fee of EUR 5 per passenger per flight. Mentioned fee could be paid in credit card only (at either check-in counter or service counter, depending on technical equipment). Do note that cash payments are in general not accepted. Non-compliance with detailed rules and instructions might result in denied boarding for the passenger.

Web and mobile check-in

As a general rule, you can use web and mobile check-in as early as 72 hours and as late as 3 hours prior to departure. At most German departure airports you can even check in as little as 40 minutes prior to departure.

Note on long-haul flights

Airport Check-in is always free of charge on our longhaul flights.

Web check-in for long-haul flights is currently only available for flights Mauritius, Bangkok, Miami, Las Vegas, Fort Myers, New York, Punta Cana . You can generally use web and mobile check-in 24 hours before departure at the earliest.

Unfortunately, web check-in is not currently possible for flights Havanna, Varadero. Please use our check-in counter at the airport. Check-in counters open three hours before departure and close 60 minutes before the scheduled departure time. 

*Please note that it is not possible to print boarding passes for these flights.

Booking changes, name changes and adding extra services

Booking changes, name changes and adding extra services (e.g. luggage) are only possible via the website until web and mobile check-in close at your departure airport.

Airport check-in service is always free of charge at airports where Online check-in is not available.

Short-haul and medium-haul routes

If you are travelling with carry-on luggage only or you simply prefer to save time and stress at the airport, we recommend using web or mobile check-in. Conveniently print your boarding pass at home or use the mobile service and have your boarding pass sent to you by SMS or e-mail. You can use these services free of charge as early as 72 hours before departure!

Web and mobile check-in also lets you check in multiple passengers at once, allowing you to secure your preferred seating ahead of time.

Long-haul routes

Web check-in is currently only available on selected long-haul flights.

Airport check-in is always free of charge on our longhaul flights.

Counter opening hours

Eurowings counters generally open 2 hours before departure and close 40 minutes before scheduled departure times. If you arrive late, you automatically waive your entitlement to conveyance.

APIS data collection

In the case of certain flight destinations, airlines are required by law to collect additional passenger data and transmit it to local authorities via the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS).

What is APIS?

Late night check-in

Unfortunately a late night check-in is not possible. Exception: You may check in free of charge between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. the evening before for all flights from Düsseldorf from 30 April 2016 (excluding flights to Pristina, Kütahya Zafer and USA). Furthermore, from 20.5.2020, you can check in for all flights from Sylt the day before between 16:00 and 17:30 for a service fee of 5.00 EUR (incl. taxes).

Do note that Late Night Check-In service is equivalent of the airport check-in service. Meaning that some passengers might not be entitled for it free of charge as per the fare purchased.

As a general rule, all passengers flying on Eurowings flights who purchased their tickets prior to 01-Apr-2020 have the option to check-in at the airport free of charge (including performing Late Night Check-In). Passengers flying on Eurowings flights who purchased their tickets post this period might not have airport check-in included within their fare benefits. For more details please consult the following link. In case your fare does not entitle you for free of charge airport check-in service, this does not prohibit you from performing Late Night Check-In or checking in at an airport counter in general. However, an extra fee of EUR 5 would be collected to offer this service.

Flights with the Eurowings network

At Eurowings.com, you can now also combine our flights with flights from other airlines. On selected routes, we offer you the additional possibility to book direct flights within our partner network.

If you have booked a flight with another airline on Eurowings.com, unfortunately you cannot check in using Eurowings online services. This also applies to Eurowings one-stop flights in combination with other airlines.

  • You just need your booking number or your etix® ticket number and a valid ID.

    Please make sure to find out well in advance of your flight about any visas or other entry documents you may require. The relevant consulate will be able to advise you on this matter.

  • Be aware that when you are flying from some airports (like Pristina, Tirana, Faro, or Jerez), mobile boarding passes would not be accepted as valid boarding documents due to operational requests. That is why checking in for flights originating from these destinations is only possible via eurowings.com (and not from your mobile device or our EW app). Also, you would not be able to generate your boarding pass upon completion of online check-in. Due to exceptional operational circumstances, generating boarding pass could sometimes be prohibited when flying from other destinations as well (either on Web or Mobile Check-In). Rest assured that in such cases our airport staff would be eager to assist you and print you out your boarding pass without any extra charges and regardless of your purchased fare entitlements. However do remember that you would still have to complete Online Check-In.

  • For security reasons, airlines are obliged to report to foreign authorities the personal information of all passengers using the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS). This regulation generally covers the reporting of information on your identity and travel documents (passport, national ID card).

    Passengers who book online can enter this information immediately after completing their booking. Any missing information can be added later by going to 'My Eurowings'.

  • No. Depending on the type of booking, you will receive a booking confirmation number or etix® ticket number instead of a ticket from us. When you present this at the counter or enter this number during web or mobile check-in or at the self-service check-in kiosk, you will receive your boarding pass.

    Important:

    When you book flights with our partner airlines, you will receive booking confirmations by email only. Our current partner airlines are Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor, United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

  • All completed check-in transactions would be reflected in our check-in systems at the airport. In case you deleted your online boarding pass or simply lost it – no need to worry. Just approach our airport staff and they would eagerly assist you with this.

  • You can check in with your mobile phone at the earliest 72 hours and at the latest 3 hours before departure. You can check in with your mobile phone for domestic flights at all German departure airports and at many other European departure airports even up to 40 minutes before departure.

    How it works:

    1. Use the mobile services homepage, the "Check-in" item or the "Manage flights" area in the main menu to check in with your mobile phone.
    2. You will need your six-digit booking number and the surname under which the booking was made.
    3. During the check-in process you can choose whether to receive your boarding pass by SMS or email, or whether you would prefer to save your boarding pass in Passbook/Wallet or in the Eurowings app for iPhone or Android.

    If you have a My Eurowings account and are registered to use our mobile services, under "Check-in" you will find an overview of flights for which you are now able to check in. If you are a registered customer, we will also remind you on your personalised homepage 72 hours before departure that your flight is now ready for check-in.

    Note:

    All regulations apply to Eurowings flights with an EW flight number, regardless of the operating airline. For our partner airlines' flights, which do not have an EW flight number, the conditions of the respective airline apply. These can be viewed on the airlines' own websites.   • Passengers who book our BIZclass fare are entitled to lounge access at selected airports.

    HON Circle members and Senators are entitled to lounge access on Eurowings flights when they book SMART, BEST or BIZclass fares. This includes all Lufthansa lounges and partner lounges in Germany and Europe as well as the lounges at the BIZclass departure points.

    If you have Frequent Traveller status and you book a SMART or BEST fare, you are entitled to use all Lufthansa lounges and Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and SWISS lounges in Germany and Europe.

  • Enter your six-digit booking number or your etix® ticket number on the "Web check-in" page, and then enter your surname or the surname of one of the passengers on your booking. Note that these must be inserted in the very same way as they are highlighted within your booking reservation.

    You can now check in all passengers in your booking at the same time, including infants.

    You can now also reserve a seat.

    To finish, simply print out your boarding pass.

    You can use the web check-in function at the earliest 72 hours and at the latest 3 hours before departure, and at German departure airports up to 40 minutes before departure (exception: Karlsruhe, Baden-Baden and Heringsdorf on the island of Usedom). At London Heathrow, due to the size of this international airport, web check-in is only available up to 45 minutes prior to departure. In Palma de Mallorca web check-in is only available up to 45 minutes prior to departure. In Amsterdam web check-in is only available up to 40 minutes prior to departure.

    Luggage

    If you are only travelling with hand luggage, once you complete online check-in you may go straight to the gate. However, if you have special luggage, excess baggage or any luggage that you would simply like to check in, you are kindly asked to proceed to our airport check-in counters first (or directly to dedicated baggage drop-off where available such as Berlin, Hanover, Cologne/Bonn, Munich and Stuttgart).

For flights operated by our partner airlines, please use the online check-in function for the relevant airline. The online check-in terms of the relevant airline apply.   • Yes, seats can be selected for all Eurowings flights. If you choose our web check-in or mobile check-in, you will be able to reserve a seat. As part of the BASIC fare, a random seat will be allocated to you free of charge. Alternatively, you have to option to reserve your preferred seat for a fee. However, when choosing web or mobile check-in for SMART and BIZClass fares, you can reserve your desired seat for free.

Children and the accompanying adult must belong to the same booking (with the same booking number). If this is not the case, please contact our call centre no later than 3 days before departure.

In event that the accompanying adult is not a parent or legal guardian, we will need written permission from a parent or a legal guardian. Please use the form provided for this purpose. Without this written permission, we regret that we will have to refuse carriage.
On direct flights within Germany, childen ages 5 through 11 may travel with Eurowings without an accompanying adult (unaccompanied minors). Our child-friendly staff will care for your child and ensure that he or she reaches the destination airport safely.

Infants under the age of 2 are not entitled to a seat. Instead, they are transported on the lap of an adult and secured with a seatbelt (loop belt).

When flying from, to or over certain countries* airlines are required by law to collect certain data through the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) and to forward it to the authorities of those countries prior to the flight.

The following information is required:

  • Title
  • First name and surname
  • Date and country of birth
  • Gender
  • Nationality
  • Passport information

Additional APIS information is required for entry into the USA:

  • Country of residency
  • Destination airport
  • Complete address of your destination (street, city, postal code, state/province, country)
