Varna was established long ago by Greek colonists, who called it Odessos. Yet archaeological research into more than 6,000 years of culture in Varna has shown that this city on the Black Sea was popular long before the Greeks arrived. Since then, nothing has changed: Bulgaria's second-largest city and the biggest metropolis on the Black Sea coast has far more to offer than the sand and the sea. Varna is also a hub for healing mineral springs, attracting many tourists seeking spa experiences and better health. The Romans themselves built extensive thermal baths in Varna that can be viewed even today. But fans of culture will also find plenty to enjoy: events like the Jazz Festival, a theatre festival and a puppet festival take place in the summer.
