Baggage regulations for children
Strollers, buggies and other child / infant baggage
For children (2-11 years), the same baggage regulations apply as for adult passengers. In addition, you can check in one 23 kg piece of baggage free of charge per infant (0-23 months), regardless of the fare.
Two of the following items may be carried and checked in as baggage per infant/child free of charge:
Stroller
Baby buggy
Child car seat
Travel cot
Baby carrier
Foldable children’s wagon
Please drop off larger items such as strollers directly at the check-in counter along with your regular checked baggage (not at bulky baggage or kiosks). The label for the stroller will be provided at check-in. In most cases, the stroller can be taken to the gate (this may vary depending on the airport). Carriage of non-foldablerigid handcarts (as alternative to a foldable children’s wagon) is not allowed.
Further items of baggage must be booked at extra cost. It is not possible to take strollers or buggies (except “pocket buggies”) on board the aircraft.
Pocket Buggies
You can take “pocket buggies” instead of one large cabin bag (max. 8 kg) on board, e.g. if you have booked the SMART fare.
Child Restraint System (CRS)
If your child is to sit on a CRS in the cabin, this must first be examined at the check-in counter to ensure it is suitable for the flight. For this reason, web check-in is not available for passengers bringing a CRS. Learn more about child seats here.
Comfort Devices
So-called “comfort devices” that are attached to the passenger seat or placed in the footwell (e.g. inflatable items, seat extenders, etc.) may not be used on board of Eurowings flights for safety reasons.
Baby Carriers and Baby Slings (made of soft material)
Soft material baby carriers and baby slings can be carried on board without prior notification, but using them during the flight is not permitted. Infants must be properly secured and fastened, either in an approved child restraint system or with an infant safety belt.
Travelling with infants (0-23 months) in the BASIC fare
If your infant is travelling on your lap, you can take two small pieces of hand baggage (40 x 30 x 25 cm) on board. These must be stowed under the front seat.You can find more information on hand baggage in the BASIC fare here.
Only the child's age at the time of boarding the last flight on the booking is relevant. For safety reasons, only one infant under two years of age per adult is permitted on board. For a second infant under the age of two, there is also the option of booking a seat and travelling with the appropriate child restraint system. Please contact our call centre for more information.
Bringing a child seat on board
Children may use a CRS, provided you have booked a separate seat for your child (bookings for children under the age of two can only be made via the call centre or at our airport counter).
You can take your own Child Restraint System on board. Neither Eurowings nor its partner airlines provide Child Restraint Systems.
Please note that you must check in at the airport counter if you intend to use a CRS in the cabin. As a representative at the check-in counter will make sure the CRS is suitable for your flight, online check-in and self-service check-in are not possible.
If you would like to bring your own car seat or child restraint system on board, please ensure:
to register the child restraint device in time via our call centre, airport service counter or use our contact form,
to book a suitable seat in advance (not in the first row, not at the emergency exit row or in a row in front of or directly behind the emergency exit),
you are using an approved car seat / child restraint device (see "Seats approved for flights"),
the device is in perfect working order,
you are familiar with using the device in an aircraft,
you will attach the device to the seat,
you agree to check-in the car seat or child restraint device as checked baggage if it doesn't appear in the list of approved devices below, if it's not in an acceptable working order or cannot be attached to the passenger seat.
If a seat does not comply with requirements, our employees are authorized to prevent its use and to stow the seat in a separate location. In such cases, infants will be secured with a loop belt on the adult's lap. We regret that it will not be possible to refund the price paid for the separate seat.

Travel documents and entry and exit regulations for children and adolescents
In order to take your flight, all travellers are required to show proof of identity – even children/adolescents and infants. European directives require children to travel with their own travel documents.
Every child of German nationality who travels outside Germany needs his or her own travel document, regardless of age. Entries in a parent's passport are no longer accepted. The directive also applies to travel within the EU and the Schengen Area. Foreign nationals who live in Germany are subject to the regulations of their own country or the entry provisions of the countries that they wish to fly to.
Unaccompanied minors (5 to 11 years)
We ensure your child arrives safely and comfortably – even when traveling alone. A flight as an unaccompanied child is a big adventure that leaves lasting memories.
Below you will find important information for booking if your child will be traveling alone.
Eurowings offers an unaccompanied minor service (UM service) for children from five up to and including 11 years. This service is available on any direct connections between the following destinations: Germany (including domestic routes), Austria, Switzerland, Palma de Mallorca (PMI), Prague (PRG), and Stockholm (ARN).
For this purpose, please complete the unaccompanied minor form.
Young passengers travelling alone (12 to 17 years)
Adolescents aged between 12 and 17 years can travel alone with Eurowings. The unaccompanied minor service is available upon request.
Without a booking of the unaccompanied minor service, an adolescent will be assigned a hotel room in case a hotel accommodation is required. In such cases, hotels may request a parental or guardian consent form. We therefore recommend completing and signing the form for young persons travelling alone and giving it to the adolescent to take along on the trip.
The following applies if siblings are travelling together without an adult guardian:
If Child 1 is between 5 and 11 years old and Child 2 is 12 or older, Child 2 can act as the chaperone for Child 1. This requires completion of the Parental Consent Form, which is to be signed by all legal guardians or parents and the chaperone, and to be carried at all times during the journey. Additionally, Eurowings recommends to complete and sign the form for young persons travelling alone and giving it to Child 2 to take along on the trip.
Please note that individual entry and exit regulations exist for children and minors travelling alone to and from some countries, including France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Croatia, Romania, and Israel.
We would like to expressly remind you that an air passenger's compliance with a country's entry and exit regulations is your own responsibility. We recommend contacting the relevant authorities for information on any requirements and obtaining any necessary documentation well in advance of travel.

In accordance with the law on the adaptation of the technical regulations for the allocation of seats for children (between 2-12 years old) to and from Italy, published on 17 July 2021 by the Italian authority ENAC, you are entitled to a free seat reservation if you have made a booking in the BASIC fare and you are travelling with a child between 2 and 12 years old Passengers who have not booked the BASIC fare can select their seat free of charge here.

Questions about travelling as an unaccompanied minor (UM)
As part of support boarding, the unaccompanied child is boarded even before priority boarding.
Yes, rebooking can be carried out at a Eurowings airport counter or via the call centre.
You pay the applicable fare (less a 20% discount for children) and a fee of 75 EUR per flight leg and unaccompanied child for the use of the UM-Service, payable upon booking.
Please contact the call centre or our airport counter to obtain information regarding available options.
Unaccompanied children have the highest priority at Eurowings, so they will be rebooked onto the next Eurowings flight unless expressly requested otherwise.

For children (2–11 years), regular baggage regulations apply according to the booked fare (BASIC, SMART and BIZclass). You can find more information here.
The accompanying adult stated in the care form must be present at the arrival airport at the scheduled arrival time of the aircraft. Our care service will then hand the child over to the registered collecting persons after the baggage reclaim area. After an identity check, submission of signatures and presentation of an official photo ID, the child is permitted to leave the airport.
Should the child not be collected as specified, Eurowings is authorized to take such measures as it deems necessary in the interest of safe custody of the child, including a possible return flight of the child to the airport of departure.
In the case of an unaccompanied child, check-in takes place at the airport.
The accompanying adult stated in the care form will accompany the child to the departure gate at the departure airport. At the gate, the child is handed over to authorized ground service provider staff, who will hand the child over to the cabin manager on board. The child's accompanying person must remain at the airport until the aircraft has actually taken off. Please note: at some airports, accompaniment to the gate is not possible; there, the child is already handed over to authorized ground service provider staff at check-in.
Booking the UM-Service as well as the corresponding flight booking is possible via the call centre or at a Eurowings airport counter – unfortunately not online or via mobile devices.
Delay:
The child is either supervised by the accompanying person at the gate or authorized ground service provider staff takes care of supervision, ensuring the child is never left unattended.
Cancellation:
As a parent/legal guardian with the child, please contact the airport counter staff to discuss rebooking options. Unless requested otherwise, the unaccompanied child will be rebooked onto the next Eurowings flight. The care service at the arrival service will be informed of the changes.
General questions about travelling with children
Infants with a booster seat and children over two years will have their own seat. Only infants (0-23 months) who sit on an adult`s lap, secured with a loop-belt, will not have their own seat.

Yes, if children aged under two travel on an adult's lap, secured with a loop belt, a fixed service fee of €25 / £21 / CHF 27 / $30 / CZK 638 / SEK 253 / NOK 254 / PLN 113 / HUF 8,799 is applicable for each leg of the flight. An extra seat will not be provided.
Children between the ages of two and 11 years (inclusive) and infants who sit in a booster seat in their own seat will receive a 20% discount on the flight price, but not on additional charges. This discount is available exclusively to myEurowings customers who are logged in to their myEurowings account at the time of fare selection. As a rule, the child's age at the time of boarding the final flight of the booking applies.

All children up to the age of 2 are entitled to free airport check-in services, regardless of the fare purchased for them. All children aged between 2 and 11 years who are flying with Eurowings and whose tickets were purchased on or before 31 March 2020 are also entitled to free of charge airport check-in services, regardless of the fare. Children aged between 2 and 11 years who are flying with Eurowings and whose tickets were purchased after 1 April 2020 may not be entitled to the airport check-in services. As a rule, children who have a BASIC booking do not have this option as one of the advantages of their fare, while children for whom other fares have been paid can check in at the airport free of charge. However, there are exceptions, in particular for unaccompanied minors, who have the option of checking in at the airport counter free of charge, regardless of the fare purchased.
It is not possible to take pushchairs or buggies on board the aircraft.
However, you can take so-called "pockit buggies" on board instead of a large piece of hand baggage (max. 8 kg).

Children aged 12 or older may fly alone. Children under 12 may only fly accompanied by a responsible adult. Children between the age of five and eleven may also travel accompanied by a sibling aged 12 years or older. The child`s companion must be able to assist the child at all times in the case of any unusual event. If the responsible adult does not have parental authority, we must be provided with the following written permission from an adult with parental authority.
Please note that special entry and exit conditions apply in some countries.
Unaccompanied minor service
Eurowings offers an unaccompanied minor service (UM service) for children aged from five up to and including 11. This is available on any direct flights between the following locations:

For teenagers between 12 and 17 years travelling alone, the availability of the unaccompanied minor service is optional on request. Our friendly staff will not only ensure the well-being of your child during the flight, but will also make sure that your child arrives safely in the destination airport.

The UM service and the corresponding flight can be booked via the call centre or at a Eurowings airport counter, but unfortunately not online or via mobile phone.
Charges
A charge will be applied per journey leg and per child. This must be paid with the booking payment.

Flying during pregnancy – what you need to know:
Pregnant women can fly without concern up to and including the 36th week of pregnancy without exposing themselves to an increased health risk, provided the pregnancy has progressed without complications. For the benefit of your health and that of your unborn child, you may not travel by air after that time.
During pregnancy, you should generally avoid flying if:
You are expecting multiples
You have previously suffered a miscarriage
You suffer from cardiovascular disease
In addition, there is an increased risk of thrombosis throughout pregnancy.
To rule out any further potential risks, we recommend consulting your doctor before your planned flight.
Infants (0-23 months) are transported on the lap of an adult and secured with a seatbelt (loop belt).
To book an extra seat for infants (0-2 months), you can call our customer service up to 24 hours before departure. However, the booking of the extra seat can still be made at the ticket counter at the airport. Extra seats are available from €10 per seat and route, as long as there is still sufficient capacity on the respective flight.
Children over two years will have their own seat.
Infants and Children may not sit in emergency exit rows due to official safety requirements.

Please note that you will need to show your maternity log on request or an up-to-date medical certificate, in order to prove that you are fit to fly.
In addition to the booking number or etix® ticket number, all travellers including infants, children and adolescents require ID.
As of 26 June 2012, every child with German nationality, regardless of age, requires their own travel document to travel abroad. Joint passports for parents and children are no longer recognised. The new regulation also applies for travel within the EU and the Schengen area.
Children under 12
As described here, children under 12 are normally required to travel with a responsible adult. If a child travels with an adult who does not have parental authority, written permission from the parent or an adult with parental authority is required. If such permission is not presented, the child will not be allowed to fly with us.

Special entry and exit regulations
Special entry and exit regulations apply in certain countries, such as France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Croatia, Romania and Israel, for children travelling alone. Each passenger is responsible for ensuring they comply with these regulations. We therefore recommend that you find out the relevant requirements from the responsible authorities in good time to ensure you have all the correct documentation for the flight.
