The new Eurowings
This means better deals for our customers: since November 2015, Eurowings flies to attractive long-haul destinations in addition to more than 130 destinations throughout Europe.
The new intercontinental route network's 2015/2016 winter flight plan includes the following destinations in the Caribbean, Dubai and Thailand (flying from Cologne/Bonn): Varadero (Cuba, from 02/11/15), Punta Cana (Dominican Republic, from 07/11/15), Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic, from 07/11/15), Phuket (Thailand, from 18/12/15), Bangkok (Thailand, from 20/12/15) and Dubai (UAE, from 17/12/15).
In the 2016 summer timetable, more direct flights will be on offer from Cologne/Bonn to Tehran (Iran, from 29/03/16), Miami (USA, from 01/05/16), Las Vegas (USA, from 04/05/16), Boston (USA, from 04/05/16) and Mauritius (from 05/05/16).
Eurowings initially begins the long-haul flights in winter 2015/2016 with two aircraft dedicated from a fleet of seven. And of course there are also our short- and medium-haul aircraft. With more than 100 aircraft, Eurowings will be developed to reach the number three spot in the European low-cost market within a few years.
The strategic goal is to develop the new Eurowings into the third pillar of the Lufthansa Group. The first pillar of the Lufthansa Group includes the important premium airlines' core business, which cover the hubs with their main brands, Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian Airlines. The service companies of the Lufthansa Group form the second pillar. The new Eurowings will be built up as a young, pan-European point-to-point brand and established as the third pillar. This third pillar will carry Lufthansa Group's point-to-point air traffic and within a few years will be expanded to become number three in the European low-cost market. Germanwings will be a partner airline of the Eurowings group.
