Excess and special baggage

Bulky baggage describes all items that cannot be transported in a compact container, such as a suitcase. Baggage that weighs more than 23 kg, including sports equipment, prams or wheelchairs and musical instruments, is also considered excess and bulky baggage. However, these items are only deemed excess or bulky baggage if they exceed certain dimensions. Excess baggage also stands for baggage weighing up to 23 kg that you check in in addition to your free baggage allowance.

Charges

You can find out more about the charges for transporting large music instruments from our table of charges.

Musical Instruments in the Cabin

Small musical instruments may be taken into the cabin free of charge if they are packed and do not exceed 125 cm (height + width + length) and 8 kg in weight. Please note that your musical instrument replaces one large cabin bag (55 x 40 x 23 cm) and that you may not be allowed to take any other large cabin bag on board.

Musical Instruments on an Extra Seat

Larger musical instruments (e.g., guitars) may only be transported in the cabin in a soft case on an extra seat. Please note the following size restrictions:

  • Maximum weight: 75 kg

  • 155 x 42 x 15 cm if the instrument is stowed on the cabin floor in front of the extra seat

  • 110 x 42 x 50 cm if the instrument is stowed on the extra seat

Booking an Extra Seat

You can call our call center up to 24 hours before departure to book an extra seat for carrying a musical instrument. The additional seat can also be booked at the airport ticket counter. Extra seats are available as long as there is sufficient capacity on the aircraft.

Exception: A double bass can be transported in a hard case only. Due to its size, it cannot be carried in the cabin.

Please note: Eurowings accepts no liability for the transport of musical instruments.
