Frequently asked questions relating to the topic: Booking and booking changes

  • Yes, luggage can be added to a booking up to 30 minutes before departure. If this is done online via "Book add-ons", via mobile in the "Manage bookings" area, or via telephone, the usual additional charges apply. You will pay more if you register your luggage when you get to the airport counter.

    Adding luggage to a booking online

    1. Log in on the page "Book add-ons".
    2. You will see an overview of your flights with all the services you have booked.
    3. Simply add your luggage or excess luggage.
    4. After clicking "Next" you just need to confirm your payment to complete the booking.
    5. We will then send you an updated booking confirmation.

    Note:

    Registered luggage cannot be removed.
    If you do not have a booking number, but instead have an etix® ticket number, or if you have booked a Eurowings flight with one of our partner airlines or in a travel agency, luggage regulations may vary. Please contact the relevant airline or your travel agency for more details.

  • If you selected the Flex option when booking your SMART or BEST fare, you can cancel your flight up to 30 minutes prior to departure at no extra charge. There are four ways to do this:

    • Via our website under "My flight"
    • Via our mobile services under "Manage flights"
    • Via our call centre
    • At our airport counters

    With the Flex option, flights can also be cancelled after the time of the original departure has passed, as long as this is done on the same calendar day as the departure of the original flight, either by telephone via the call centre or in person at the airport counter. If the flight is not cancelled until after the original departure date, a charge will be incurred.

    If you have selected another fare, your booking cannot be cancelled due to the low-cost price of the flight.

  • Service is very important to us, so we offer a wide range of payment options. We ask for your understanding in the event that not all payment options are available to you.

    Direct debit

    You can pay via direct debit up to 5 days before departure as long as the following requirements are fulfilled:

    • You hold a current account.
    • Sufficient funds are available in your account.

    Any charges incurred by cancelled payments or insufficient funds will be added to the flight price. In the event of a chargeback, please do not make any payments. We will contact you as soon as possible to discuss the next steps.

    Credit cards

    You can also pay with your credit card as long as you are entitled to use it to pay over the phone or online. For more information on this, please contact your bank.

    We accept the following credit cards:

    Unfortunately, we are currently unable to accept Eurocheque cards.

    Note:

    If you use your credit card as a payment method when adding additional services to your booking or when purchasing vouchers, a transaction fee will be applied.

    PayPal

    You can either authorise PayPal to transfer the payment amount to us, or you can authorise us to withdraw the relevant amount from your PayPal account.

    Paying on invoice (RatePAY)

    You can also pay for your flight and any charged additional services via RatePAY invoice if:

    • You book online and the amount payable is at least €20 but no more than €2,000
    • The flight price is given in euros
    • Your billing and contact address is your personal address and is within the Federal Republic of Germany or Austria
    • You have a positive credit check

    If you fulfil these criteria and we have accepted your request to pay via RatePAY invoice, the invoice amount will be due on the tenth bank working day after booking, or at the latest on the last bank working day before departure. Payment must arrive in the receiving account by this date. Please only transfer the payment to the bank account specified on the invoice.

    If you are unable to use this payment method, we can offer you an alternative payment option.

    Note:

    This payment method can only be used to pay for flight bookings and only for flights charged at the normal price.

    Cash payments

    You may only pay in cash if you book your ticket at one of our airport counters.

    Vouchers

    Paying for a booking with a voucher is quick and simple:

    1. In the "Payment" step of the online booking process, select the option to pay with a voucher.
    2. Enter your voucher code and then check the code entered and the travel services in your basket.
    3. Click on "Confirm booking" to complete your booking.

    If the price of the flight exceeds the value of your voucher, you may pay the remaining amount either with another voucher or another payment method.

    Validity

    Vouchers may only be used to book Eurowings flight services and not partner offers (e.g. Rail&Fly, rental cars or hotels).

    Please note that conditions of use vary for purchased and promotional vouchers.

    Vouchers may not be used to book flights with our partner airlines at eurowings.com. Our current partner airlines are Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor, United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

  • Children aged 12 or older may fly alone. Children under 12 may only fly accompanied by a responsible adult. Children between the age of five and eleven may also travel accompanied by a sibling aged sixteen years or older. The child's companion must be able to assist the child at all times in the case of any unusual event. If the responsible adult does not have parental authority, we must be provided with the following written permission from an adult with parental authority.  

    Please note that special entry and exit conditions apply in some countries.

    Unaccompanied minor service

    On direct domestic flights and direct flights from Germany to Zurich or Vienna Eurowings offers an unaccompanied minor service (UM service) for children aged from five up to and including 11. Our friendly staff will not only ensure the well-being of your child during the flight, but will also make sure that your child arrives safely in the destination airport. In addition, we provide children travelling alone with a savoury snack and still water (0.2 l) and one other drink on board, free of charge.

    Booking

    The UM service and the corresponding flight can be booked via the call centre or at a Eurowings airport counter, but unfortunately not online or via mobile phone. If your booking has an etix® ticket number, you can only book the UM service at the airport.

    Charges

    A charge will be applied per journey leg and per child. This must be paid with the booking payment.

  • Each passenger may carry one item of hand luggage on board with a maximum weight of 8 kg and maximum dimensions of 55 x 40 x 23 cm. This excludes foldable garment bags carried as hand luggage, which may measure up to 57 x 54 x 15 cm.

    In addition to this hand luggage each passenger may bring another personal item of hand luggage (max. 40 x 30 x 10 cm)  (e.g. laptop bag or handbag) as well as one baby carrier or a child car seat or buggy per child (transport in the cargo hold possible) and wheelchairs/orthopedic aids (e.g. walking frame).

    Due to the limited space available in the cabin, larger or heavier pieces of luggage must be checked in at the airport counter and will be carried in the hold. This is not only for your own safety and the safety of your fellow passengers, but also for your comfort.

    Please ensure that medication and valuable items such as laptops, mobile phones, PDAs, documents, ID and jewellery are removed from any bag which is to be carried in the hold.

  • Yes, musical instruments may be carried on board as hand luggage as long as they are no larger than a guitar and are packed in a soft case.

    Larger musical instruments must be placed on an extra seat in the cabin.

    Exception:

    Double basses must be transported in a hard case and checked in as luggage. Due to their size, they may not be carried in the cabin.

    Extra seat

    If you book an extra seat via telephone before midnight on the same day as you book your flight, the extra seat will cost the same as your own seat and there will be no extra charge. If an extra seat is added later, it will be charged at the current flight price as shown on the Internet.

Frequently asked questions relating to the topic: Rail&Fly

  • Want to take a convenient train to the airport for your flight? If so, step 2 of the booking process gives you the option of booking a Rail&Fly online ticket.

    • Enter your preferred departure and arrival stations under "Additional services" > "Rail & Fly".
    • Now choose whether you wish to buy a train ticket just for the outgoing journey or for both the outgoing and the return journey. The ticket can only be booked for the group as a whole, not for individual passengers. Infants up to two years of age travel free of charge if accompanied by their parents or grandparents.
    • Please enter the contact information associated with one passenger's ID card (BahnCard, EC or credit card) for identification on the train. This information is not collected for the purpose of paying for the tickets.
    • You will receive an email from us with your booking confirmation and a link.
    • Click on this link to print the Rail&Fly online ticket (we regret that it is not possible to post this to you.)

  • Yes, you can edit your booking and add the following extra services up to 30 minutes before departure, whether you do it online, on your mobile phone, by phone or at one of our airport counters:

    • Regular, excess and special luggage (golfing equipment, bicycles and sports equipment such as surfboards, snowboards, bodyboards, diving gear, and sail and hang gliders)
    • Transport of pets
    • Seat reservations
    • Boarding and disembarking assistance for hearing or visually impaired passengers and travellers with restricted mobility
    • Boarding with a wheelchair
    • Assistance for passengers with restricted mobility from check-in to the aircraft, including assistance with steps to aircraft
    • Train connections to airport

    Please be aware that space restrictions prevent us from transporting unlimited amounts of special baggage. Once our space is used up, you will no longer be able to select this service.

    Fare upgrade

    Up to 72 hours before departure, you can still upgrade your fare by telephone or at our counters. There will be no processing charge if you do this by phone.

  • Please carry the following documents with you during the train journey:

    • Your Rail&Fly online ticket
    • Your Eurowings booking confirmation
    • The ID you used during the booking process (BahnCard, EC card, credit card).

    If you fail to produce these documents when requested to do so during the journey, your ticket will become invalid and you will have to immediately pay the standard ticket price for all travellers.

  • Your ticket is valid for second class travel on all scheduled standard trains operated within Germany by the company Deutsche Bahn AG:

    Additional charges for travel on IC, EC and ICE trains are included.

etix® is an electronic ticket that replaces paper tickets. It has a 13-digit number in addition to your booking code. You receive this etix® ticket number under certain circumstances, for example if you book through the Lufthansa website or a travel agent. It is saved for you in the etix® database. When you present your etix® ticket number and a photo ID, you will receive your boarding pass.

When flying from, to or over certain countries* airlines are required by law to collect certain data through the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) and to forward it to the authorities of those countries prior to the flight.

The following information is required:

  • Title
  • First name and surname
  • Date and country of birth
  • Gender
  • Nationality
  • Passport information

Additional APIS information is required for entry into the USA:

  • Country of residency
  • Destination airport
  • Complete address of your destination (street, city, postal code, state/province, country) 

Passengers who book online can enter this information immediately after completing their booking. Any missing information can be added later by going to 'My Eurowings'.

To avoid unnecessary delays at the check-in counter, we recommend that you submit the APIS information as early as possible using our online form.
