If you do not have a booking number, but instead have an etix® ticket number, or if you have booked a Eurowings flight with one of our partner airlines or in a travel agency, luggage regulations may vary. Please contact the relevant airline or your travel agency for more details.
All regulations apply to Eurowings flights with an EW or 4U flight number, regardless of the operating airline. For our partner airlines' flights, which do not have an EW or 4U flight number, the conditions of the respective airline apply. These can be viewed on the airlines' own websites. These partner airlines currently include Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor, United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

  • Each passenger may carry one item of hand luggage on board with a maximum weight of 8 kg and maximum dimensions of 55 x 40 x 23 cm. This excludes foldable garment bags carried as hand luggage, which may measure up to 57 x 54 x 15 cm.

In addition to this hand luggage each passenger may bring another personal item of hand luggage (max. 40 x 30 x 10 cm)  (e.g. laptop bag or handbag) as well as one baby carrier or a child car seat or buggy per child (transport in the cargo hold possible) and wheelchairs/orthopedic aids (e.g. walking frame).

Due to the limited space available in the cabin, larger or heavier pieces of luggage must be checked in at the airport counter and will be carried in the hold. This is not only for your own safety and the safety of your fellow passengers, but also for your comfort.

Please ensure that medication and valuable items such as laptops, mobile phones, PDAs, documents, ID and jewellery are removed from any bag which is to be carried in the hold.

    Note:

All regulations apply to Eurowings flights with an EW or 4U flight number, regardless of the operating airline. For our partner airlines' flights, which do not have an EW or 4U flight number, the conditions of the respective airline apply. These can be viewed on the airlines' own websites. • Please report immediately to our "Lost & Found" counter in the Arrivals area of the destination airport, as delayed reports cannot be accepted. Our colleagues at the counter will do everything to find your luggage as quickly as possible.

In the first 5 days following the loss of your luggage, the airport at which you reported the loss is solely responsible for the search. If they are unable to find your item of luggage within this time, our headquarters will take over. You can find out any updates on the search online on our luggage tracing page.

We kindly ask you to send us the following documents (original documents only) via post to help us find your luggage as quickly as possible:

    • Your booking number (online confirmation number)
    • The loss report from the destination airport
    • The contents list (BIF) issued by the airport, which must be filled out fully and signed
    • Your bank account details – not your credit card details (for bank accounts held abroad please include your IBAN und SWIFT code)
    • Your telephone number in case of any questions or messages
    • Your luggage tag

  • Yes, musical instruments may be carried on board as hand luggage as long as they are no larger than a guitar and are packed in a soft case.

Larger musical instruments must be placed on an extra seat in the cabin.

The charges applicable for travelling with musical instruments can be found in this table.

    Exception:

Double basses must be transported in a hard case and checked in as luggage. Due to their size, they may not be carried in the cabin.

    Extra seat

If you book an extra seat via telephone before midnight on the same day as you book your flight, the extra seat will cost the same as your own seat and there will be no extra charge. If an extra seat is added later, it will be charged at the current flight price as shown on the Internet.

    Note:

Eurowings accepts no liability for musical instruments carried in the cabin.
All regulations apply to Eurowings flights with an EW or 4U flight number, regardless of the operating airline. For our partner airlines' flights, which do not have an EW or 4U flight number, the conditions of the respective airline apply. These can be viewed on the airlines' own websites. • In addition to all other hand luggage regulations, the following regulations regarding carrying liquids on aeroplanes apply for all departures within the EU and in several other countries, including Switzerland, Russia, Iceland, Croatia, Israel, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Norway:

    • All liquids (such as cosmetics and toiletries, gels, pastes, creams, lotions, mixtures of liquids and solids, perfumes, pressurised containers, cans or water bottles) and wax and gel-like products may only be carried on board in containers holding up to 100 ml or 100 g.
    • These liquids and products must be packed in a transparent, resealable and fully closed plastic bag (max. capacity 1 l). No such plastic bags are available at our check-in area so travellers must ensure they obtain one in advance, for example a freezer bag from the supermarket.
    • Prescribed medication and baby food may also be carried in hand luggage if the traveller can prove that they will be required during the flight.

    Our recommendation:

Store all liquids and gels that you will not require during your flight in your checked luggage to ensure a quicker boarding process.

Liquids from Travel Value or duty-free shops

You may purchase liquids, gels and cream products in containers greater than 100 ml tax-free at airport shops and on board if they are sealed in a security tamper evident bag (STEB) along with the receipt at the time of purchase. If purchasing items on board, please ask the flight crew to seal them for you. Please note that due to high demand there may no longer be any more STEBs on board. You may take these items onto your connecting flight in your hand luggage if the seal is left intact and the receipt is in the bag. This applies to all departures from and via EU airports, including Norway, Iceland and Switzerland. We strongly recommend getting informed about the regulations specific to the destination or transit country prior to the flight.

We assume no liability for products that are opened or confiscated during transit or when exiting the plane.

Find out more on the website of the Federal Ministry of the Interior.

    Note:

Products and bags that do not comply with requirements or are not closed with a rubber band or similar must be handed over to security. Eurowings accepts no liability for any belongings brought along by passengers which must be handed over to security.

  • After you have handed over your luggage during check-in at the departure airport, it is automatically checked in through to your destination, allowing you to transfer conveniently without your luggage.

    Attention:

For customs reasons, it is unfortunately not possible to check luggage through on flights from non-Schengen1 and/or non-EU departure airports such as Istanbul or Izmir with a transfer in Berlin. For this reason, we ask you to collect your luggage after you arrive in Berlin and proceed with it to the Eurowings transfer counter in the main hall. There you will get your boarding pass for your onward flight. The transfer counter is marked with signs and is located right next to the regular check-in counter – just 100 metres from the luggage claim hall.

    Charges

The luggage surcharge and any surcharge for excess luggage are only due once and cover the entire route, from the departure location through the transfer location to the destination airport.

Frequently asked questions relating to the topic: Luggage
