What is a wet lease partnership?

Wet lease means that various airlines conclude a so-called wet lease agreement with each other and fly on behalf of each other, i.e. these airlines lease their aircraft including cockpit crew, on-board crew, maintenance and insurance to Eurowings for a certain period of time.

Why does Eurowings use wet lease partners?

In order to be able to implement the flight programme planned for the summer, Eurowings needs support. The aim is to meet passengers increased desire to travel in the summer in the best way possible.

In the summer months, Eurowings operates a total of 19 additional partnership aircraft:

14 Airbus A320s from Avion Express Malta and GetJet (from Düsseldorf, Stuttgart and Hamburg)
5 Boeing 737s of Smartwings (from Cologne-Bonn)

How are the high quality standards also ensured in wet lease partnerships?

The Lufthansa Group high quality and safety standards are decisive for the selection of our wetlease partnerships. In addition, various departments of the partnership airlines and Eurowings work closely together. The cabin crews, for example, are familiarized with our values and our service concept. Quality checks are also carried out at regular intervals to ensure that the Lufthansa Group quality and safety standards are adhered to. Likewise, statements from crew reports and passenger surveys on wet lease partnerships are recorded and followed up.

Various teams from the areas of Safety, Security, Quality & Compliance supervise the wet lease partnerships in order to achieve the best possible result.

Why are partnership aircraft not painted at all or only minimally with the Eurowings livery on the outside?

Accepted Answer

Eurowings rents most of the partnership aircraft only in the busy months. Outside this time, the airline partnerships try to use their aircraft elsewhere. To do this, the jets must be able to be quickly restored to their original condition without much effort. Another customer will not want to fly with Eurowings colours. For this reason, Avion`s white planes will have "only" the large Eurowings logo on them. Smartwings will be branded completely in the Eurowings colours.

Wet lease flights may have minor differences in how the cabin is furnished or may temporarily not have products available. Our Wings Bistro and Wings Shop are usually available aboard wet lease flights. However, we are unable to offer WingsConnect aboard wet lease aircraft at the moment.

If the flight you booked is operated by one of our wet lease partners, you will receive a Eurowings booking code. You can use this code to check in at Eurowings as usual.
